Slow Slides

Question... When we open or close our 3 slides (2980rl) bedroom first, then kitchen, then living room. So..as they are coming in the living room one would hesitate. Stop for 3-5 seconds and then come on in. Then... that same event would happen 2 times more on the coming and going out. Now..when kitchen slide's turn it hesitates also.

So now.. we are bringing slides in (or out) bedroom..no problem.
Kitchen starts and hesitates 1 time. LR hesitates 2 times. Seems to me something needs attention, but what???

Thanks guys.

This is a common problem and there have been several posts about it. I have not read any permanent solutions for it but seems many Montys (maybe SOBs too?) will have it.

I now live with my problem but here's a couple of things I've (had) done that worked for several tries then the problem occurs again. 1.) The dealer changed the autoresetting circuit breakers (this is what caused the start/stop/restart) to higher values - this worked for a little bit, but it started happening again. 2.) Make sure the reservoir is filled with the proper Dexron or Mercon or Multiblend (not TYPE 1) ATF fluid (when all slides are in the proper level is 1/2" from the top of the reservoir).... again worked a few times then still occurs.

I have not seen or heard of any permanent solutions. Mine started occurring about 18 months after purchase (but this was with only 5 outings as of that time).

I hope this peaks someone to post a permanent solution.

Mine just started that act this year, 4 years in. Maybe I'll work on it tomorrow as it is suppose to be real nice for Nov. Almost 70 her in southeast Indy. 50miles north of louisville. I have also tryed filling resivore and lubing the slide rails with dry lub. Both worked for a little bit. Will post if I come with anything.

Our big slide does it and we have learned to live with it. It seems to happen to most brands.

As many folks on this site have done, I replaced the pump motor circuit breaker. From the factory, it has one 50 amp auto reset breaker. Lippert recommends replacing it with a higher amp breaker. Why they don't come with one to begin with can only be a matter of economics, but I digress. I bought two 40 amp auto reset breakers at Auto Zone and wired them in parallel (side by side) so the pump motor now has 80 amps available. What a difference!!!!! No pauses or hesitations now.

From many reads here at MOC, I thought the fix WAS the extra breakers, or in line fuses or whatever those things are called. IIRC, those that have done this fix no longer have the stalling situation. Maybe I don't RC?? Where is MIMF??

On edit: Verified, CountryGuy added another breaker on ours and we have had NO stalling since then. I thought so, but, was on that first cup of java earlier, you know foggy brain system!

I cured my problem with putting two auto re-set breakers in paralle.(SP) Haven't had a slide issue since then and that was a year and a half ago.

A quick search on "parallel circuit breaker" brought up this topic (among others) where Trailer Trash II posted a picture of exactly that.

I would like to know the full load amp. draw on that motor before I would install a bigger c/b. Don't want to burn it up from an overload. Anybody know the motor spec.s?

NOT A, as in single, C/B, TWO, I think it is called in parallel. Al has TWO 40's. He looked at wire and it was of sufficient size to handle (I asked him about that the other day, so I know I got that part right! ).

Disclaimer: Al is winterizing the stick, he will read this and surely correct me if I have it messed up .

According to some past posts by MIMF (Dale), the pump is rated at 100 amps. The original Lippert recommendation was two 50 amp breakers in parallel. I, like several others, have gone with a combined 80 amp protection.

Here is a direct link to the pub from Lippert talking about the upgrade and how to do it: C/B Upgrade I found lots of other great information there as well in the "LIP Sheets" section. The link that Carl n Susan provided is a good work-around if you cant find, or don't want to spend the money for the 80A breaker.

No need to because the wire is already oversize.

Check your battery and make sure the water level is up and has a full charge, the slides will move slow if the battery does not have a full charge and it does not matter if you are pluged in or not as the slidout pump run off of 12 volts and if the battery is low your not getting enough voltage.
