New Orleans Campgrounds?

Anyone have any suggestions on good, clean and safe campgrounds/RV resorts in the New Orleans area? I have been reading information and getting a wide range of prices also. Not planning to go there during any special events, except during our Spring Break from school, which would be the end of March.

Thanks for any information.

Sammie

We stayed at Ponchatrain RV Resort. We enjoyed our stay at this campground. They have shuttle service to downtown New Orleans. We were there in April 2012 during the French Quarter festival which is several weeks after the Mardi Gras.

X2 on Ponchatrain. Spent 5days there in late Oct. Didn't really find any other options which were acceptable.

I have been reading all the reviews and looking at Ponchatrain, that was top on my list. Looks like it caters more to the Motor Coaches than it would the Big Sky. I like the idea of the shuttle as I have read online that many places, dually trucks were excluded from certain parking areas, so that could be a potential problem. We have never been to New Orleans and I have wanted to visit there for several years. Thanks so much! Sammie

I wouldn't say that. There were many 5th wheels and travel trailers when we were there. We got a front site and had a great experience. I think Bingo plans to go there in April. There are many MOCers who have stayed at this resort. Sometime reviews can be misleading.

I don't have a dually, but I took my truck to the French Quarter. Plenty of commercial parking lots, and metered street parking within walking distance. We did not use the shuttle as we wanted more control on where and when we left and returned. I did not have any problem maneuvering. Other than the Presidential sites, there are plenty of trailers and fifth wheels in the park - both pull throughs and back-ins.

One of the things I like about this MOC forum, is I feel a get a better, more factual opinion on something posted than just reading a review from others we don't know. Also, the MOC friends have or are more familiar with the same type of RV. Thanks again for the responses! Sammie

http://www.fqrv.com/ if you want to be near the French quarter and not drive. you can walk (day light only), taxi and they will even shuttle you near the quarter.

the other parks are great but you can't be the French quarter rv park....but be ready to pay a pretty penny. it also is a passport park 1/2 off the first night.

Be sure to check out Passport America at Ponchatrain. We took George and Rosetta's advice and stayed there after rally. Enjoy the beignet's in the French Quarter.

We have researched and quizzed the MOC and used every resource we could and have decided that we will be staying at Ponchartrain Landing during our week in New Orleans at the end of April. We will utilize the shuttle to some extent but will probably rent a car for a couple of days as well. Don't really want to ride the shuttle or take the dually to a formal restaurant so decided to travel in style for a couple of days. Still pondering the Presidential sites even though we would be "backwards" since they are designed for motorhomes. It will be a grand and suiting celebration of our 25th wedding anniversary.

I have made our reservations at Pontchartrain Landing. When I talked with the rep from there she was very helpful. I am making a list of places to see and where to eat. If you have any suggestions please send them our way.
