Good reason to get out of the trailer in a storm
If you ever needed something to convince you to seek shelter during a storm, this picture of a destroyed 5th wheel should do it. 12-13" rains between Austin and San Antonio this time with lesser amounts throughout much of the central and eastern part of the state.

That is scary.
The media has called it a flatbed trailer, truck trailer everything but a RV, or Wrecked rv
Accuracy as usual...
Fell sorry for them and the poor folks with the Rv's floating down the river. Must have come up in a hurry to trap them where they were parked.

To the unknowing eye it would look like a basic flat bed trailer. But the front overhang with the fiberglass underneath, the front jacks and rear stabilizers down (or pointed up in this case), and the enclosed underbelly leave no doubt. Must have been destroyed before it was dropped there as there is no other debris on the roof.

This is why we have a storm shelter at the RV home base.

There should be a orientation class for people coming into Texas on everything from out weather to how to drive here...When in Texas if they are saying we are going to get 5+inches of rain and you are camped in an RV park on a river or low spot......freakin move..it's pretty simple....Oh and do not drive across a low water bridge cause it ain't really a bridge, and just never drive into moving water. If you do please wear bright orange clothing, makes it easier for the searchers to find you...

In just three short years of full timing we took off from the Montana when an approaching storm threatened us. One situation was while camped in Alabama and one in Illinois. The Alabama one was a small tornado and didn't hit the park directly. The Illinois one was a huge twister and missed that park also, but caused a lot of damage to surrounding towns.
Neither one of these campgrounds had any type of shelters or any suggestions on where to go in case of emergency situations. This was always one area of concern for us while traveling full time. As more and more folks are introduced to this lifestyle maybe CG's should be required to provide either emergency shelters or at least emergency plans.

Wow, one must always be prepared. For those snowbirds that have left real early this year it must be a real concern.

I have a very good friend, full timer, who lives in the area (Austin). She has been keeping me up to date on this devastating storm.
There is a KOA nearby, that is by the water, all the rigs were evacuated as soon as possible, many are boondocking at a local Wal*Mart. Some were just moved up the hill. The problem that came up was that some of the units were there but, the owners were not. No keys and no way for the campground owners/workers to yank them out of the campsites. They are now toast and flooded.
From my seat, the campgrounds did a better job this fall compared to this spring, when many of the same areas were also devastated by floods. And, it seems, that many of the owners did not laugh off the warnings.
Over all, it is a very sad affair. And, at least 5 lives have been lost. The trailers and MH's can be replaced, the lives cannot.

And, Ozz,
I believe that Terrie and Ron Ames traced the issue of these funny numbers, as in your post:

To using a tablet or phone and using the emoticons available there, instead of the ones here on the forum.

Thank you Carol, very nice of you to pass it along, as you probably know I am lost when it comes to computer stuff, I need you to tutor me. I would say like a child, but heck, they are really good with it.
To the thread, how sad that the RV owners didn't leave keys, I guess we all think the worst won't happen to us.

We are in the DFW area and although the rain was no where near like in Austin, we all kept our eyes on all the rivers and creeks....especially the Trinity which comes thru Ft. Worth. We had to traverse several of the creeks and west fork of the Trinity to get to Amazon and they are running high...a few folks up at the KOA in Denton had to move to higher ground as the low areas got flooded out.
Welcome to Texas!
