Water pump noise with city water

Ok, so we're Snowbirding in Florida and hooked up to city water. But every now and then when we flush or turn on a faucet it sounds like the water pump is coming on. (it is turned off) Any idea why this is happening?

Our RV (Montana HC 331RL 2019) has a switch to control the water pump. We usually turn it off when connected to a fresh water source, but sometimes the pressure isn't sufficient to keep things flowing at a good rate so we keep it turned on.

If you have a switch, try turning it off and check the pressure. If it looks like you have weak pressure the pump is probably coming on to compensate for it.

It's probably the hot water heater if u are using hot water...in the 3921fb, you will hear it under the front shower...

Did you ever find a solution for this? We are having a similar problem.

You know that your water pump does not work with city water connection right? The water pump only pulls water from the fresh water holding tank.

If you are connected to city water, your water pump should be turned completely off at the main switch in your control panel.

If you are hooked up to city water, but using it to fill your fresh water tank only, you still need your water pump turned off.

If you are running water exclusively from the water hose, your water pump should be turned off. Make sure your fresh water tank is not in the "fill" position too.

If you are running water exclusively from your fresh water tank and you hear the water pump kick on for a sporadic second and then shut off again and you are not running water anywhere, check your fill switch for your fresh water tank in your wet bay. It's probably on the "fill" position. Switch it.

If the water pump is turned off completely and you still hear it sporadically turning on for a split second, then something else is happening. If the power is off, the pump should never come on.

If a value is restricted from debris, not fully turned on or air in the line it can make a straining sound which will mimic the sound the pump makes.

Make sure that the valve between Fill and Normal is set back to normal.

Another remote possibility : IF you put your ear near the RV park's water spigot, then have someone do your run-some-water test, and you can hear the noise; then maybe the water pressure regulator in the park's water system is 'hammering' (sputtering), probably somewhere underground. If that is the case then other RV campers around you can likely also hear it.
