we just use happy camper and know when the tank is nearly full, that's when we dump.

Unless your RV is equipped with a non contact system like aa Garnet SeeLevel system, it's a waste of space and money. Ours made it through the first trip, got replaced by Horsst (now Valterra) Miracle gauged that almost made it through a cross country trip.

I cleaned/sanitized the black tank to replace the valve so I wouldn't end up with a sleeve full of 'smelly brown stuff'which was a given on how our 5er sits in yhe driveway.

Happy Camper, a fine product, has virtually the same main ingredient plus a couple more as Rid-x and is a lot cheaper and more readily .available

I have to report that after 2 months in storage, All Tank Gauges read empty except for my good old Galley Tank that reads FULL...
Will never understand why as it gets mostly Dish Detergent and only a little food scraps...

Just a thought...We also use Happy Camper, but our best purchase by far has been the Flush King https://www.amazon.com/Valterra-Degr...s%2C158&sr=8-2
I will back fill our black tank 2 to 3 times while my wife watches at the toilet. That's about as clean as you can get the tank.

Now that gadget makes me chuckle. Valterra has combined their drain line end gate valve with their 45 degree back flush fitting and made it a single piece. I do about the same but by using the original gate valve as a fail safe valve and their 45* flusher after instead of before the valve, leaving that gate valve in place 100% of the time. Their new design wont let you leave it in place

Oh and you can secure that original style valve much tighter on the drain line with a, IIRC, 4" worm drive clamp, a suggestion offered up by anther member.
