Factory 2" Hitch Rating

Anyone know the Tongue Weight rating of the factory installed
2" receiver hitch on our Montanas?

I can't seem to find the info on Keystones website. I was told two different numbers at the dealer during our walk through.

I guess I should have looked a little harder at the actual hitch...

I just crawled underneath our 310RE and sure enough, right in plain view, was a bright yellow sticker stating the weight rating of the hitch.

Its 300 lbs for those who may be interested.

The label on my hitch says 300# including the weight of the equipment carrier.

I want to tow my jetskis with mine and will add a little structure to it since it has a long neck compared to a regular class 3 receiver hitch. I'm going to weld a HSS2x2x.188 across the frame and support the back end of the receiver tube.

Just finished dealing with this to hold my generation and rack on the back. The dinky receiver that was on there was not even tied to the frame! Significant modifications had to be made. I'll send you a picture if you wish.

Hey Jetskier,

I remember that name from the old Wildcat owners forum. ScottZ and Oldelmer as well. I was "Mountainman" on there. Good to see you still doing your thing and enjoying the outdoors.

Don't know if you remember my custom fabricated bumper with hitch I posted about then but it worked out excellent carrying my dirt bike thousands of miles across the country. Never knew it was back there.

The heaviest thing I'll be using this hitch for is our Honda 3000 Genny. Good to know its rated for double what I'll be carrying.

Thanks for the offer McIver. The hitch that came on our 310RE is actually fairly beefy and welded to the frame. Like you, its only for our Genny or Bicycles so all is good.

That's me! Sold the WC in August. Double towed for 12 years without issue. The only complaint was the balance of the trailer. I always felt the old WC had the axles too far forward creating a teeter tooter affect. The new trailer tows smooth albeit a taste heavier.

We actually still own our Wildcat. Its been a great camper and served us well for 9 years. We just purchased the Montana a couple weeks back and figured we would have better luck selling the Wildcat in the spring.

We've only towed the new 5er from NC to home in WV but yes, I can absolutely feel the extra 2200 lbs back there. A little more than I was expecting...

I sold ours two weeks before Labor Day weekend. Posted on Craigslist and sold it the next day for asking price which was above book value. Mine was pretty pimped out and the rear hitch was a huge selling point. It was in great condition on the inside.

Good to hear she brought a good price. Ours is still in excellent shape inside and out. It has been stored under roof when not in use since day one. No fading and decals still look like new.

FYI there has been several posts regarding adding hitches to Montana’s
The usual advice is read your warranty as most say it will void the frame warranty.
Just passing on information.
Good Luck and Merry Christmas
