Extended warranty

2006 Montana. Has anyone else experience any problem were you purchased extended warranty and they just don't cover anything. One of the walls in the Montana has a crack in it. Took rig into Folsom Lake RV they informed me today that the crack was because the manufacturer put to many staples in the wall and the crack has now appeared. But the extended warranty company won't cover it. Also the window by the sofa is hard to open, apparently the frame has a bow in it, extended warranty won't cover. These are items that we caused the problem with. I have e-mail the service department of Keystone to see what they have to say, probably nothing. Folsom Lake RV's telling me I'm looking at a $1,431.00 bill. With the price you pay for extended warranty don't do it, it doesn't seem to be worth it.

The company is called Easy Care. I did e-mail Keystone in regards to this because I feel it was a manufacturer issue. Folsom Lake RV is stated that it's out of the manufacturer's warranty of one year, but if they hadn't put so many staples in the wall I wouldn't have the crack.

Is it the EW offered through Ford http://www.cruiseamerica.com/buy/buy...s/EasyCare.pdf If so it clearly states what is and is not covered. If not do you have your service contract handy..It should state what is and what is not covered. Our EW through RV Shield reads as follows under exclusions.."all outside ornamentation, Carpet, Sheet metal & PANELS, Frame& Structural body parts" We interpret that to mean that the panels you describe were not covered and we knew that when we purchased the EW. We did not see a EW when doing our reserch that covered the outside Gel Coat Panels... Have you called the manufacturer of the panels????

I assume you have not yet heard from keystone Team Montana. Call team Montana. E mails generally are not effective. If they say it is out of Warranty( your unit is) and will do nothing ask them who the vendor is at what the number is. Don't give up.

Customer service, Ask for Team Montana 866-425-4369 ..Explain your problems..Be calm, Be polite..see what happens.

If you can last that long, you might consider coming to the fall Rally in Goshen, IN where these Montanas are built and get the factory guys involved and see what happens.

I received a e-mail answer:

Ms. Asher
Thank you for taking the time to email Keystone RV. Keystone tries to manufacture a defect free product, and manufactures each unit to RVIA specifications. Additionally Keystone warranties each unit for 1 year, from original purchase date, against manufacturing defects, and quality of workmanship. Your original purchase date was 8-27-05. The issues of a cracked wall and bowed window did not present itself within the original warranty period and due to the length of time in service, 1 year and 7 months out of warranty, Keystone is unable to participate in the repair. Thank you again for your time and input. Sincerely, Denise

Debbie,

You might want to write to one of the RV magazines (like Trailer Life or Good Sams (if you are a member)) and seek their assistance. Even when people get responses such as the one you receive they are sometimes successful in getting a concession from the manufacturer as a "good will" gesture. It may not be complete coverage, but a portion of the out-of-pocket expenses associated with the repair. (From either or both the extended warranty company and/or the manufacturer (e.g., keystone).

Good luck!

Debbie..I would still call customer service and ask to speak to A team Montana Rep about your problem .Relate to them the statement from your dealer that to many staples cause the cracked Panel(that would be a manufacturering defect) and your dealer may back that up???.That is the reply that would be expected to your E mail as the unit is out of Warranty. I woud also call the vendor of the damaged panels..Do not give up.
