Air Conditioners not moving enough air

I know this has been covered on here before but then my old unit had a good air conditioner. My new unit does not seem to blow much air. I think I read about rimming some louvers. Any help appreciate

It would help to know what model and year you have? What AC system you have like whisper in salon and regular in bedroom? Thing like that.

The trailer is a 2018 3791 RD. The airconditioner referred to is the main unit , air conditioner is a Dometic.

Given that this is a new unit, your dealer should be working this issue with keystone. Of course, not all dealers are good at repairing units. There are a few posts easy found on the site that detail the process they went through to resolve their issues. If you are doing the troubleshooting, start with the air intake making sure it is not collapsing, then move on to removing vents to make sure they don't protrude too far into the duct and are taped to the duct properly. If removing the covers solves your issue, then you need to modify them in some manner. It could be that your unit does not meet the design requirements of the ac manufacturer for intake and output duct sizing and need more work than the normal rv owner can handle as you need equipment to measure air flow at all points. Good luck with your work.

It’s curious that you are having this problem in a new unit. Keystone goes to great lengths to boast that the A/C ducting is now crush proof. There’s a whole section on it in the January 2018 brochure. If true the old method of opening up the ducting probably won’t work, unless you have an earlier production 2018 rather than the latest version (after September 2017). It’s also possible that some of the ducting became disconnected. Best to discuss with your dealer.

As topjustice said, Montana was supposed to start installing redesigned ductwork this past fall, and it is possible this unit was constructed before the design changeover. I would curious to know if units made in the last 2-3 months are still having this problem. This was one of the reasons I have waited until this spring to order.

I would think they have started or they wouldn’t have put it in the new January brochure. I will be ordering mine in the next two or three weeks.

Hmmm......I wonder about mine now. I get a lot of flow out the first two vents right next to the front A/C unit but very little from the rest........When running just the front unit. The rear bedroom unit blows like crazy when you open the big vent but doesn't seem to want to blow thru the built in ducting.......

We had the collapsing ducts and fixed that with PVC pipe, but we also had an issue with the supply ducts being too tall, thus resticting the flow of air down the vents and not open enough. I removed the ducts and cut about 1/4" off the end of the ducts. Then I removed every other louver in them to open them up even further. Worked for me.

Folks actually believe what is printed in the brochure!! If that were true i would have at least F-rated tires instead of the Es that they put on.

Yes, I am going to replace them.

Getting back on topic is there a way to tell which type of intake duct work you have old vs new? Ours was made right after they made the mid-year changes.

My old collapsing ducts are cardboard and I was told the new ones are plastic. Don't know for a fact, however.

Old vs new duct, based on what I saw during our factory tour in September the new ones appear to have a domed style upper portion whereas the old ones are rectangular shaped. I didn't notice that they were plastic or not but they were of a different color.

Not being Snarky-- just pointing out the brochure- is inaccurate

Okay our 379RD Has a July 2017 sticker on the side. It does not have the fold down rack in the back. It does have the power recliners with USB charging. So it was supposed to be made at the same time that they were putting in the crush proof air returns to the whisper quiet AC.

I just measured mine and all the way across at the vent it is about 1.5 inches (each edge and in the middle) So it is either not being made as per brochure, (deleted snarky comment ) or if it is supposed to have an arch I cannot measure it.
When we bought ours in September a factory rep was there and told us ours was less than 30 days old.

I shoved my phone up there and took a pic. you may want to compare it to yours

I think they went to the new duct work fall of 2017, so yours may have been built before the change over.

Some of us have a sense of humor and see the entertainment value of some dry humor. Other folks like to be PC/Forum police....

Thanks for posting pictures. I’m trying to determine if folks are putting pvc in in vent long ways or cross ways. Guess I will figure it out when I go to looking into the vents. Might be good excuse to buy that bore scope I have been wanting (hope that wasn’t too snarky)

We bought our 3790RD Montana last May. While in Texas over the winter. we had problems with both our air conditioners. The service man who came to repair under warranty found that both ACs were installed incorrectly. The main living one had burnt itself out because of incorrect installation. The bedroom AC worked but wasn't sealed correctly so water leaked into the roof and came out the TV antenna. He had to move both ACs 4 inches on the roof and seal the holes that remained once moved. They both work correctly now, thanks to him. Who does the inspections before a trailer leaves the plant? Obviously, no one checked the ACs.

That's craftsmen ship at it's finest it's pretty bad when they can't even line up the AC with the hole in the roof!

My solution was when I removed the roof units and found major air leakage at the duct connection in the air distribution box. lots of air crossing over between the supply and the return and lot of air blowing into the ceiling cavity. not to mention the forward unit was set to far forward and the gasket blocking the return from the supply was not in the correct place.
2017 Montana 3811MS
6 hours and a roll of High Pressure Foil Tape and it is amazing difference of the even air flow through out the RV.
