Tiny upgrade on my Montana
I bought a trickle charger to keep my battery charged. Trouble is, unless I want to leave the compartment door open to flap in the wind, it's hard to hook up the cord. There is a hole under the battery, but I didn't like that, either. So I got a small rubber grommet, drilled a hole the right size for it in the floor of the battery compartment and made a very short cord that goes thru the grommet and hangs down outside about 1". Now I can use my charger with the door closed and locked. Thought I would share the idea....

Sounds like a good job, but I'm puzzled. Your converter has a smart charger as a part of it.

Not sure what you mean. This is to keep the battery charged when it is sitting in the driveway without being plugged to a shore line....

Hi
Because of the high humidity in Florida I keep ours plugged into shore power all the time so the AC’s will keep the interior dry.
I would prefer to drill the hole in the side wall and using a grommet run your cord thru to the propane cabinet and make it long enough to reach out side thru the hole under the tank. Then when not in use you can roll it up so it doesn’t hang down.

Didn't mean to sound critical. Many folks run a 20amp line to their shore cord.

Good alternative to anyone who does not want the whole trailer powered up. Throwing the 12 volt disconnect switch would isolate it even further.

Our RV is kept in storage lot without access to power. So I installed a 5 watt solar panel on the roof and ran it down to a controller then to the battery. I found the solar panel on sale for about $35. Also added a "Hersey bar" cutoff, to disconnect all power to the rig. Solar wired to positive side, everything else to shut off side. I installed the Hersey bar after the automatic vent fan drained both batteries one hot August month.

When we park our rig between use I pull the batteries and keep a charger on them at home.
Next trip we drag them back and hook them up
Seems to work for us since we don't have power at the storage facility.

Phil, I too live in Florida and keep mine plugged in. During the humid months I run a dehumidifier in our Monty. I run the hose to one of the drains then leave that tank valve open. I cover the dump pipe covered with a screen to keep pets out.
