Many big riggs are going to switch to CNG (compressed natural gas). When that happens the price of diesel will drop. It,s going to take some time. School buses and others are looking at this retrofit. Many new stations are going to come on line to fill this need. GM now offers a option to have your truck built to use CNG. The option is $11,000. CNG is suppose to be about $2.00 a gallon?-It is cleaner than diesel and is suppose to give 30% more HP. There are companies out there that can retrofit diesel trucks to run on CNG. This info came to me from fracking meeting I went to in Youngstown OH. The gentleman who gave the talk was from California and is involved in setting up new CNG stations. He also said in some place in CA if you want to build an new home part of the permit requires you to install a CNG filling station in your garage. CA wants to get rid of diesel since CNG is cleaner with no spillage problems since it evaporates. Time will tell if this falls into place.

I think that is about 20% less H.P. with CNG:

Diesel in our area of Southern California has dropped from $.15 to $3.75 but, you have to research it on the internet as it seems to flucuate daily!

My previous post should have said prices have dropped from $4.15 to $3.75.

I agree with Oz. When I worked for GM, they made a fleet of 1/2 ton trucks to run on CNG and they didn't have near the power of the gas versions.
