Attic Vents

While in Florida I was on the roof of our Montana and noticed the Mushroom shaped attic vent caps were crumbling due to the sun basically eating up the plastic. I have since gotten new ones and replaced them. When you really think about things you see the need for these vents. So why don't the other fifth wheel makers have them? In weather like we are having now it is sometimes over 100 degrees above the roof and about seventy degrees inside our units. Tis will cause condensation to form in the attic and this condensation needs to be able to escape. Why don't the other makers realize this?

They're pretty cheap to replace, I'd go with anything that adds extra venting in the attic, and Keystone has several innovative gadgets on their units that you may not find on brand X. If you get a replacement, spray paint it with paint for plastic ... make them last a looonnnng time unles you kiss a tree limb.

It's not just about letting heat out in summer, they are more valuable in the winter. If you've ever noticed the attic on Sticks and Bricks always have venting. Some in the eves, some in the middle crest of the roof and some just have vents here and there. Heat is an issue, but if you don't vent the humidity in the winter it will settle in your insulation and cut the R value way down.

If you look at many of the other brands you'll see they don't have the attic space we do. It's just insulation with no air space.

Hmm, I noticed long after I had my roof replaced (another layer of thin luan, and new rubber)that the front and rear mushroom attic vents were not replaced/installed...
Haven't noticed any differences or problems so far without them...

The heat is not the problem, there PVC, it's the UV Rays that are causing the problem, to block the UV, paint them with a coat of Latex white paint, or any color. This is done for swimming pool PVC pipes exposed to sunlight at the filter area.

Ron is correct. That is why electrical PVC is grey. It's sunlight resistant.
