I'm going to put in a fantastic fan, where would be the best place to put it

Would you put in living room vent or the bedroom vent? Open for all suggestions.

My 3685FL has two of them one in the Bathroom and one in the living room and My 3555RL that i traded in had one in the living room

My personal preference is for it to be mounted in the living room. We run ours consistently and would not want the noise that close in the bedroom. However, that is a moot point in our unit because we have a second air conditioner mounted in the bedroom.

We have one living room one bath room. Although it's close to the bed room the bathroom vent runs twice as much as the livingroom...

We use it mostly during the day. When it cools in the evening we close the vents, or reduce the fan speed to near zero...

Ours is in the kitchen right before the steps to the bedroom/bath area and it seems to work for all areas. We love it. Glad our unit came with it.

Besides the one in the bath, we had one added to both the living room and bedroom. We can have one bring air in, other take air out, which creates a good air flow. We can use both to pull air out and cool off unit quicker.

If going to only have one, I would probably go with living area. Pull hot air from kitchen, and run at night which would make for less noise in bedroom.

We got the ones with thermostats and rain detector. Also might want to consider Maxx air vents. We have these, and can use fans in rain, and also let camper air out while not in use and not worry about rain.

We have one in the living room and one in the bedroom. I want to add one more in the bunk room. If I only had one I would want it in the living room to pull the kitchen heat out.

We have one in the kitchen and one in between the shower and bathroom. Wouldn't be without one.

Our 2002 came with it in the bathroom, we found this to be a good location because it allows to contain humidity from the shower etc. within that area. It is central to the trailer and you can adjust doors and windows to cause air to flow towards it from all parts of the trailer. The celing there is low enough to reach the screen for ease of cleaning (also the manual controls, if you need to). For these reasons we ordered our 2005 with the fan in the bathroom again. Ours were both real living floor plans, so the kitchen was near to the bathroom anyway.

Keystone seems to put them in the living room area by default.

We put ours in a few months ago and put it in the bathroom hall. We can run it there and it draws air from throughout the coach without a lot of noise interfering with hearing the TV, etc. At night it can also serve as white noise to drown out noisy neighbors. It does a great job of pulling out the steam when showering, too. But it gets turned off quickly when stepping out of the shower, especially in colder weather! Our 2001 2880RL had one in the living area. It worked well, too. that one had the thermostat on the wall. The one in our current Montana has the manual controls on the fan housing itself. That wouldn't work well in the living room but works well in the bath area where the ceiling is reachable, as OntMont mentioned.

When mounting ours I found I couldn't get past a roof rafter to get 12v from the nearby ceiling light in the hallway. But I was able to drop the shroud from the water closet vent and use a clothes hanger to snake wires over to the wiring from the fan in that vent.

Looks to me like both locations are good. We happen to prefer the bath hall location for ours.

Ours has the automatic control on the wall. How do you reverse it to bring air in or out. Ours is only taking it out right now.

We have both the thermostat controlled version and one without. The one without the thermostat has a switch which allows fan motor to turn in either direction, either intake or exhaust for the fan. Thermostat version does not. (answers Sue's question)

If you get the fan with the wall thermostat and rain protection, it can go almost anywhere. It will exhaust only, so the location isn't so critical. If you get the one without the thermostat and rain protection option, I would have it where you can operate it without a step stool, probably near the bedroom area.

The Maxx-Air hood is a good option...I would get it also, especially if you don't get the rain protection model.

When we bought our manual Fantastic Fan last September they also had manual ones without the switch for in and out. We made sure to get one with the switch.

PJ, I thought the thermostatic ones could have the in/out with a rocker switch on the unit itself like the manual ones but apparently that's not correct, right?

We did not get the one with the rain sensor so put the big hood over it, the one with the big round opening that faces downwards toward the roof to keep rain out. I went and forgot whether the brand is maxxair but I don't think it is. I can climb the ladder and find out if anyone wants to know.

Can you put a maxxair vent on the ones that close automatically when it rains? I thought maybe it would keep it cleaner? Or do you just not cover them? I dont know to much about these

Ours has the thermostat and rain sensor. We have a switch that reverses fan, so we can bring air in or take out. Ours was and add-on, so we don't have wall switch.

Yes, you can put a Maxx air vent on the ones that close automatically. We have them on both of ours, and put one on bathroom too.

Steve: On our wall mounted thermostat controlled version, there is a rocker switch, but it is an override for the rain protection feature, not a motor reversal switch. Our non-thermostat unit has a variable speed fan switch (4 stops), and a intake or exhaust rocker switch. There is no temp control on it.

Campbud, you can put a standard MaxxAir over it but because the fans are high volume I'd recommend a cover made for high volume fans. I think that's what 2002dura is referring to. I think there are a couple of different brands. Ours is the maxxair fan/mate that looks like this --

The rain sensor just wouldn't do anything unless maybe water somehow splashed in through the cover.

Maxxair does NOT recommend the standard vent cover (Pictured above) for use with Fan-Tastic vents.
The one Steve pictured above is their recommendation.
Maxxair Vent Cover Not recommended for use with high-powered ventilators

Fan-Mate covers for high-powered ceiling fans like Fan-Tastic

Of course Fan-Tastic Vent does not recommend any vent covers
