Re: Door problem

To all who responded to my door problem.....and to all that are having door problems....Keystone had no answers except take it to the dealer....$$$$$.

Here was the "FIX" If you are having problems with your entry door pinching, and have had no results to find out the "HOW" to fix it; here is the answer.....Do you have a piston that runs from the body to the top of the door? Remove it!

It appears that the piston was placing too much pressure on the door throwing it out of plumb and causing the tweaking. I took it off and the door opens and closes without any problems. The downside is that the door does not automatically open and stay open now, but I can live with that....and now I am going to have to install one of those rigid plastic door pins like the one on the back door.....but that is okay....my neighbors will appreciate us no longer trying to slam the door shut 3 and 4 times befoer it will lock....

Thanks again to all who responded

35 years RVing without an automatic door piston; guess I can continue to tough it out without one.

This spring when we were up in Indiana, went to Tiara and they had some fivers with that plunger on them. Half were either pulled off or were just getting ready to let go. I was sure glad ours didn't have one on it.

The 3150RL's also have the shock on the door because the cargo door is too close and you can't open it with the entry door folded all the way back like most RV's. I had to have my original entry door replaced within about 3 months of purchase as the shock was too strong (it bent the door hinges just enough to cause the door to rub on the frame). I figured they would just replace the hinges ... oh no ... the entire door and frame was replaced. The new door came with a much lighter shock and has worked fine the past 1.5 years.

Watch out when you open the door with the awning out. That was the reason for the piston....

Most door pistons of this type are adjustable. I haven't looked at ours to see if it is, probably because I have not had the sticking door problem. Guess I will have to have a look see just in case the problem arises in the future. Are they adjustable, or does anyone know?

Maybe consider a piston with a lower spring rate.

The plastic wears out pretty fast (ours broke last week). Just got back from storage today, putting on a Stainless Stainless Steel T-Style Door Holder, lifetime warranty.

But 7.3Ford, don't the stainless steel versions weigh a lot more than the plastic versions? Wouldn't you be concerned about the weight ratings? Just kidding.

When my plastic latches wear out, I'm converting to metal. Whatever I do, I don't think I'll convert to piston versions. I just don't need that much convenience in that area.
