Propane Tank Expiration Date Change

Went to fill up a 30 pounder and found out that my tank was going to expire in a few months...

New federal regulations:

The rule reduces the initial requalification period for DOT cylinders from 12 years to 10 years from the date of manufacture. It reduces the period from 12 years to 10 years for cylinders requalified using volumetric expansion testing. However, the requalification period for DOT cylinders following a proof pressure test increases from seven years to 10 years. The five-year visual inspection method for cylinder requalification does not change.

New tanks are about $70 out the door. Have no idea what a recertification of tank cost. Will find out this week. Someone told me it was around $10.00.

I paid $five dollars last summer but ran into a problem at Aubuchon Hardware. They refused to sell me propane because their corporate office requires the re cert to be stamped into the metal. Must be an Aubuchon requirement because all the other dealers in town will refill if there is a re-certification label on the tank.

I had mine filled at a propane dealer and they did the certification for free. I only had one tank to fill but she said to bring in the other tank and she did it for free also. now I am good for another 5 years she said. very happy with that
