Brake Away Cable

Question. While unhooking as setting up in camp, My wife was unplugging the power cord from the truck and forget to unhook the brake away cord. When I pulled out, it popped out. I was able to plug back in but does this mean my emergency brakes on the 5th are on? Will I be able to hook up and go on Monday when our time to leave is? Thanks in advance.

When you plug it back in it resets and you can drive away

Hi Rick,

Won't hurt to pull it out once in a while and give the trailer a little tug with the truck.... just to make sure everything is working OK.

Army Guy you also want to make sure the cord does not catch on anything in the truck when turning. I was making a turn and mine hung on something in the truck bed and what a surprise.

Thanks for the info. I wasn't sure and figured I'd ask the experts. I don't think I'll let the wife know yet and see if I can milk it for something.

You might want to be honest with her. She might have be born at night but not last night. She probably felt bad that she did something wrong. I think she has learned from her mistake and I bet it won't happen again.

Dick, you're my kinda guy and you can milk it for awhile BUT if she ever happens to mention what she did at one of our rallies and gets the truth guess who gets to do the milking than?

A simple solution to keep the brake cable from getting tangled with anything in the bed of the truck when pulling away from the trailer as well as when you are towing....

A cheap suction cup holder found in any Wal*Mat, Lowes or Home Depot and a wire tie.
Stick the hook on the smooth front cap right beside the pin box. Make a small loop using a wire tie in the middle of the cable. Slip the loop over the hook and tighten the loop around the hook. Works great for keeping the brake cable up out of the bed but being that it is just a suction cup it will not interfere with the braking cable operation. I used this for years on my old Monty and of course I'm using it on the new one. The hook also makes a great place for hanging the end of the cable when not hooked up.

Excellent idea. I told her about the fix and also about the suction cup so we won't have that happen again.

Great idea on the suction cup. I've been looking at all 3 places mentioned but have yet to find one, since this was discussed a while back by Glenn. Guess I haven't looked in the right spot. Thanks again Glenn for including the pic.

No problem Steve. In fact I would have given you one of them hooks at the NE rally but alas you had to cancel. Yeah well, your lose someone else's gain.

Thanks anyhow, Glenn. I just bought the package of two at Walmart.

Jim, the suction cups are in the hardware section where the towel rods for the bathroom are. Took me quite awhile to find them.

Steve, thanks. I never thought to look in the towel section. Will be going there tomorrow, so put it on my list.

Jim, it's not with the towels. It's in hardware with the towel rods.
