Toilet bowl leak-down

2014 Mon HC. Thetford toilet, don't know what model. 1" or 2" of water will leak out in 15 minutes.Maybe the (gasket) seal but it looks and feels OK.Any lube for this ? Can it be replaced without removing toilet?

lots of us have ditched the tetford and installed either the 310 or 320 by dometic. Reasons- bowl leaking away water, pedal coming off or breaking, toilet flooding the rv. Yes, you can go to home depot or lowes and get silicone grease in the plumbing isle. Apply and it may work for you. John

Send a message via Yahoo to NCFischers
Put some blue dawn and water in the bowl and let it sit. The seal has a bit of debris on it.

First Tetford had the flush handle literally explode off the bowl. Second Tetford leaked after just a few months. Did everything anyone on here suggested. Replaced the gasket twice. Finally replaced the toilet with a Dometic. Should have done that when be bought the rig and just tossed the Tetford out.

Called Thetford Cust.service today. Rep. said Dawn dish soap could damage seal. Went to Ace Hdwe. and got silicon lube. Is holding OK for now. Will have local service check it when at home, they can do Thetford warranty work.

I really believe Thetford figured the valve shouldn't shut all the way unless you let the pedal up on it's own. That way you could travel down the road and not have nastiness slop out. Problem is that it won't and it really not cool having the valve not shut! We just let it fly up and will replace the thing when it breaks with a Dometic.

Also replaced with Dometic 310. Very good and fairly cheap upgrade to the Montana, well worth the price and labor. Switch out was easy, just a little time consuming due to going to store for plumbing parts.

As mentioned above in other posts (and as you did), be sure to use silicon plumbers' lube, petroleum jelly will degrade the rubber seal/gasket.

Replaced our stock Thetford with Dometic 320 w/sprayer, now wife and I are both happier campers
