Pinbox Bike Carrier
Has anyone added a 2 inch receiver to the top of the pinbox? I called Mor/ryde and they said the pinbox is more then strong enough to support the weight. My main concern is the clearance between the truck and trailer.

They have models to carry up to 3 bikes. They also have adapters to raise the rack above the truck's cab especially for short bed trucks. This shouldn't add too much weight (plus bikes) at the pin. I know my truck has enough margin; at last check I have 500 lbs to give and I don't have a dually.
I have read testimonials that they'll stand on their tailgate after unhitching to remove the bikes. I like that the bikes are centralized and up high to minimize "tampering". If one uses this I'd cover the first bike to protect the rear bikes from debris (bugs) when driving.
If you are so inclined I think something could be fabricated but I don't have that talent.

I've seen several this winter and they seem to work well on long beds but don't leave enough room for our short bed. I like not having to use my slider hitch for most places we go and I definitely would if I had the bikes up there. If you have a long bed it looks like a cool idea, not sure about getting them on and off, however.

We were thinking of going that route, but were unsure about getting the bike on and off even tho they're not real heavy, just awkward. We used the rear receiver with some reinforcing for our trip South and they did fine. That way we can transfer the Bike Rack to the TV receiver for day trips and outings.

I have the Arvika (toppoprail) bike rack. I had it on my tt and when I got the Monty I upgraded it to the pin box version. They have an extension in the height for short box trucks so the bikes are above the cab and don't interfere in a turn. You put the bikes on the rack while standing in the bed of the truck. I haven't mounted mine yet, I just got the upgrade and will post pictures when I have it installed. It's the next item on my winter mod list.

The disadvantage would be the dirt and bugs you would collect. I guess if you don't mind washing and re-lubing your bike all the time it would be ok. That or make a cover for the bike.

I have a 2 inch receiver that I am going to use to make one. It will not cost much, just a few bucks for someone to weld it for me. I was thinking about buying a motorcycle cover for the bikes. It would cover all of the bikes. I do have along bed truck, but trying to mock up the setup with a bike on the rack holding it up in the air; turning from side to side just wasn’t working. To mount it on the pin box I was going to use four 1/2” grade 8 bolts. From reading the posts it sounds like it will work.

I have made one for each of our last 2 fithwheels, plus 1 for a friend. I will most likely make on for the Moutaineer also.

This was the 2nd on a 2007 JayFlight. It and the 1 on my friends Springdale bolt on the top of the pinbox with 4 3/4 bolts
What you will notice in the 1st pic is that the bikes aren't near as wide as the trailer. With the longbed trucks they dont come close to the cab, most times I can open the lid on the tool chest even with the bikes on the rack
