Appreciate the concerns. We are located about 30 miles from the closest hard hit area. A lot of relatives at our church were affected however. It is truly a sad event for many but the true spirit of West Virginia is appearing each and every day as neighbors help neighbors any way they can. As always prayers for the affected and their families can only help the situation. Bless everyone on the Moc and remember to treat today and every day as a "Bonus Day" that is unearned but given to you by our Creator!!

I'm worried about a friend who lives in Charleston in a little hollow. If he got much rain he would be in trouble. The houses that were hit the hardest were the houses closest to the streams. The people that live closest to the streams aren't people with money. You don't put very expensive houses in these little hollows. If you have a million dollar house you can afford another one. This flood washed away every thing some of people had and without insurance.

The areas that got hit the hardest were Clendinen and Clay County upstream when the Elk River (20 miles north of Charleston) and a couple of contributing feeder streams were hit with about 6 inches of rain. Also hard-hit was the area around Greenbrier County which included Rainelle and White Sulphur Springs (including the Greenbrier Resort) when they received over 8 inches of rain. Another area was Richwood in Nicholas County which actually flooded twice in the span of a couple days. Some streams exceeded previous record flood levels by more than 12 feet!

I just called my buddy, he works Douglas Barrels. Every thing was good with him. Like Bingo said some of these poor people just got hammered. You feel so sorry for them, they have nothing left.

We have a friend over on another RV forum that lost everything both his 5th wheel and his sons TT were destroyed. They are in a C.G in Pence Springs,WVA. His latest post says they are covered 100% by progressive. The 5h wheel was not yet a year old.

Good to hear that you and the family are ok. I e-mailed Bill and Donna to see if they heard anything from you but have not received an answer yet.

There is a flood warning out tonight for some of these people. It won't be as bad as last week. If you don't have flood insurance your home owners policy won't cover your loss and I would bet a lot of these people didn't have flood insurance.

Unfortunately what you are saying abiut lack of flood insurance is being proven true based on news reports and interviews. However, these people are strong and will pick up the pieces and perservere.

We are cheering on those who are affected. It's scary just to watch the reports on TV. I expect it's a whole different reality when it's up close & personal. Please stay safe!
