Waxing the Front Cap?

Like many on this forum I care about the appearance of my Monte. That means polishing and waxing which brings me to this question: how do most of you polish the upper section of the front cap? I’m reluctant to lean an aluminum ladder up against the cap because of the cap’s rounded front surface — good chance of scratching the gel coat once I start climbing and putting weight on the ladder. A tall step ladder won’t work because it keeps me more than arm’s length away from the top of the cap. I suppose it’s possible to apply wax to the top of the cap by reaching down from the roof but that’s risking a nasty fall. Anyone have a good solution? Maybe I’m missing something obvious in my old age.

I lean over the front of the cap to do the upper part but as a builder it doesn't bother me. A nether way so you don't scratch the cap is put pool noddles on the back side of your latter just split and slide them on like you do on the bedroom slide so you don't crack your head!

Ed,

A step ladder works well for me. I don't have a problem reaching the top - on mine its less than an arms length.

I use an 8' type 1a fiberglass stepladder that is very heavy duty. No problem but I am a little higher on the rung than I like and I am on concrete so it is very stable but would be pretty rough if I fell. Using the noodles or heavy towels on the extension ladder is a good idea but I would use more than a household extension ladder type 3. Type 1 or 2 is preferable. Just go as high as you feel safe and stop. One accident is all it takes and you could be threw traveling for good. I fell last October from 3' on concrete and was beaten up pretty bad. Now I've reinjured my shoulder I had rotator cuff surgery on last May. You can not be to careful. Be Safe.

DH backs the truck up to the front of the trailer and puts a step ladder in the bed of the truck.

I back the truck up to it both centered or off of each side. Standing on the bed rail and tailgate works or with a step ladder in the bed.

This best method, with the ladder in the bed of the truck turn ladder front or rear perpendicular to the cap and lower camper as low as it will go with an 8` ladder your not up on the top rung and it`s easy peasy to reach the top. YMMV

I let my check book do that type of work. I have my wash guy come out 3 times a year twice to wash the rig and wax the front and rear caps and once to wash and wax the whole rig.
Just to old to fall and destroy the rest of my RVing life.

I have rubber sponges over the portion of my ladder so as to not damage my cap. I have done this with several units and never had a problem.

Same here as loneoak as my ladder is to short to reach but stores well. I wax once a year and 303 every month. graphics are 5 years old and look new.

One thing that helps. Before I remove camper from truck, I let legs down as far as they will go before pulling pins. Then after removing truck you can lower nose of camper almost to ground. Also moves top to more vertical.

telescopic pole

I am using the swifter we use for flooring. I attache a microfiber pad, wet with wax and apply, then change the microfiber and remove it. I had good result. Is easier if you put a ladder in your truck bed, but enough wax assure good spread over the gel coat.
