Fan / Vent - Open or Closed?

On our new 2019 High Country, the vent over the kitchen has a switch on the wall for opening and closing. It appears to open all the way or be closed. There does not appear to be a method of stopping it halfway?

Am I missing something?

Will it clear a MaxxAireII cover if opened all the way?

Nope. Manual will allow you to partially open it. It will work with the vent cover (although it probably won't completely).

Can't reach it to open it manually. Can you stop it halfway with the switch on the wall? Wall switch is a MaxxAire 3 speed automatic switch.

Not that I am aware of. Automatically it's either open or closed. Mannually you can do what you want. I have a Maxaire cover on mine and it does open all the way. It used to be that you could buy a extension pole to change light bulbs. If you could find a shorter one of those you could probably turn the knob mannually without a step stool.

A piece of 1” pvc conduit cut to length with the end cut to cover the fans knob would probably work and it would be cheap. One could fashion a handle of their own liking.

Put the MaxxAir covers on, you WONT regret it!!! It will allow it to open 3/4 of the way and won't have to worry about it, even when traveling with it open. We only close ours in the wintertime, when its in storage!

Understood. My fear is when the vent cover opens "all the way" automatically, it will break if the Maxxair cover prevents it from opening that last few inches.

It will stop if it hits something so you don't have to worry. Many years of use and many covers here and we've never had a thread about a broken lid due to a cover that Im aware of..

Exactly what DQDick says! Several years with them myself, and NEVER broken a cover, nor damaged a fan!!

So based on some of the replies in this post, it is ok to turn the manual open/close knob? We have the Maxxair in the bathroom also and can easily reach it. I tried turning it lightly and it didn't move and was afraid to put much pressure on it. So is it ok to put more torque on it to open?

FYI if ordering MaxxAir covers get on your roof first and see if you have the “easy clips” mounting.
It will save shipping back 3 covers!
Ask me how I know.

What do the easy clips look like?

The easy clip has 4 mounting studs on the roof frame.
The MaxxAir covers have a slot that sits over the stud and a stainless hitch pin goes through a hole in the stud.
Took longer to carry covers to the roof than install.
Old style required drilling and mounting hanger brackets.

easy clips

I thought I had a better picture - but I think the easy-clips are like cotter-pins that you use to attach the vent cover...

The clips sure beat the heck out of the old style drilling and bolting, what a great upgrade
