I use a 1" strap with a quick connect clip to secure it. Only need it when high winds comes up. Just toss if over the large topper and take out the slack. Got a large roll and the clips at Quartzite a few years back.

Great information, thanks everyone for the replies. Nice to hear some positives about the slide toppers.

We have had toppers on our previous SOB and they were much noisier than the ones on the Monty. I would not be without them now and even in the strong winds the bedroom one does not normally bother me.
The benefits far outweigh the negatives in our opinion.

We have the toppers and yes they are noisy but we think that the pros of keeping the elements off the slide tops far out weigh the cons of noise. They withstood 70 plus MPH winds in Hurricane Sandy and no issues. We are going to look into the inflatable tubes to slide under to support them especially with snow (which we got last night).

Never heard of inflatable tubes for the toppers.

We have had ours the entire time we've owned the rig. No problems at all until we went west this past summer. 60MPH winds in Utah made them sing a bit! Truly very little bother from them and we would do it again.

Have written about this before. The old toppers I had had what the manuf. called "alumnaguards", metal sheathing that covered them when closed. They were unbelievably noisy. Had them replaced and have had no noise to date.

Our toppers are now 6 1/2 years old, well past what I think is the normal expected lifespan. A couple of years ago they were showing signs of tearing at the corners where they attach to the side of the rig. I wrapped eternabond roof tape around several inches of each corner to stop the tearing. So far that's worked. We also were seeing slight tears along the edge of the toppers, the edge going away from the rig. So this year I used some white tape from Scotch, similar to but stronger than duct tape, along the edges. We'll see if that works. I wanted to use Gorilla Tape but can find that only in black.
