a nice suprise
This past week we were at a Good Sams chapter friendship camp at Toad Suck park near Conway Arkansas. Since we had a quorum we held our monthly meeting. As usual before we began the meeting, we had a short prayer and then we faced the flag flying from the front of the campsite and with hands on hearts we began the pledge of alligence. Just as we began a pickup came slowly by our site. The driver and passenger saw or heard what was happening and stopped, removed their hats until we finished and then with a nod drove slowly away. I am proud to say that the American love of country and respect for our flag is alive and well in Arkansas. I think this also proved that RVers are nice people, but I guess we all knew that already.

WOW! That was something you wouldn't see every day! I'm glad there are people who still respect our country and flag.

That was a nice surprise, and I am SO glad you shared it with us. Before we left Texas, and definitely up here, what we heard prior to any event involving the flag of our country was "Please remove your hats while we honor our nation's flag and say the Pledge of Allegiance." To know that somewhere people are still removing their hats without have to be reminded to do so is good news, indeed.

On a military post, when the cannon goes off and the music starts, all vehicles stop, all occupants get out, face the flag (even if they cannot see it), and render proper courtesy (hat off and hand over the heart or military salute).

God Bless America. There is hope for us yet......
Another part of real Americana is coming up soon to us here in Oregon. It is the Great Oregon Steam Up, which is one of (if not the largest) show of antique power equipment in the west. Every year, at 10 AM in the morning, each morning of the show, everyone stops for the flag raising, the National Anthem, and then, when the singer is done, all the steamers let go with their whistles....including the one on the steam powered sawmill. It is impressive and brings a tear to the eye.....
If anyone is in the area this year, stop by. It is at Antique Powerland, which is at Brooks, Oregon. The dates are July 26th and 27th, and August 2nd and 3rd.

Where is Brooks? Is it near Hillsboro? We are at the other end of the state.

That is so refreshing to hear/read. I wish more people would take off their hats and cover their heart during the pledge. It is just disrespectful to not do so. Thanks for a great story!
