Campground near Gatlinburg?
We're planning a spring trip south (from MI) and picked Gatlinburg. I've search for RV campgrounds in the area and found several. Has anyone stayed in Gatlinburg and have any recommendations?

Look into Pigeon Forge as another option. Gatlinburg is very hilly and in some places very tight to get around. We stayed in Pigeon Forge then took the trip into Smokey Mountain NP and Gatlinburg. Very nice trip to boot. And a lot of things to do in Pigeon Forge also.

River Plantation RV Resort in Sevierville is a nice park, close to everything.

Up the Creek. Stayed there once. BIg sites, no tents, on Wears valley road in pigeon forge. And campgrounds in Sevierville, there is a RVC campground there and easy access to gatlinburg, great smoky mountains, and bass pro shops.

I replied earlier recommending Up The Creek and it was deleted for some reason. Have fun.

Vote here for Up the Creek as well....small very well maintained CG and very nice sites....easy to get to everything and about 20 min to Great Smoky NP.

anglerdad, we stayed at Smoky Bear Campground in Cosby in September of 2010. Neat clean little place on 321 north of Gatlinburg in a scenic area and just away from the hustle and bustle. In fact, the park for the Smoky's starts across the road from the campground. An easy drive to Gatlinburg and on up into the park. If you go up into the park, you must take the driving tour thru Cades Cove. Interesting history and chances are very good you will see all kinds of wildlife, including black bear. No matter which campground you choose, that area is really neat!
