Propane Leak inspection

We are currently heading north to the border from our home and base in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. As with the last two years I spent lots of time insuring the Monty was ready for our trip. I checked all the under parts (springs, axles, brakes, tires, greased bearings and wet bolts). Inspected the roof and everything noted on the owners manual and recommendations from this MOC page. Never has anyone suggested leak testing all Propane fittings and connections. I can't take all the credit for adding this to my check list because it was my wife who told me that at times she could smell propane and I could not. At her persistance I soap check the gas fitting and found that both treaded ends of the cross over pipe which runs across the front storage locker or generator locker were leaking. Further soap test of all the under belly gas lines also revealed gas leaks. A little teflon tape and all is now sealed. Do you know how lucky I now feel that I soap tested these fitting and was able to correct these hazards before the big boom and fire.

I will turn on for my propane for a few minutes then turn it off and watch the glass which will be green, I watch & see how long it takes it to turn red. If it takes 20 minutes there should not be a leak. This is just MHO & each of us have one.

Testing the propane system for leaks is an excellent safety check. I need to do that soon also. It will make me feel safer.

Hope you used the proper teflon tape (usually yellow) for gas fittings. The white stuff will not last.
Gas line TPF tape is available at most hardware stores.

Used what I had which was white and will replace it when I cross border. The leaks are now stopped which was the most important to me. I would of used the surprises my cat leaves in the cat box if I didn't have the teflon. My concern was stop the leaks.

I have had the same problem multiple times. I posted last week about the problem and it has returned. The RV mechanic that found it has sealed it twice, maybe I will try it myself since someone else has had the same problem. Thanks for sharing. Bill
