05' 6.0 PSD lost Power

Well while towing this week end I loss all power to my beloved 6.0 PSD, 2005. Going down I40 at 70 MPH and felt loss of power, tried giving it m ore fuel she strained, rest area ahead pulled into it, she came to a rolling stop and died. tried to crank it back nothing would just turn over but never would fire off. Waited 30 minutes plus still would not fire off, had to have it and rig towed to nearest dealer. I was 300 miles from home. Hope dealer that has it knows what they are doing hate to be that far from home and dead in water. Has anybody had such issues.

Sounds like a fuel problem, I always carry extra fuel filters. That would be the first thing to check, you can get bad fuel and the filter will become stopped up and will not let fuel thru. Hope that is your problem its a very fast fix. Good Luck...GBY....

Wonder if it's that crank sensor. It went twice on my 7.3, don't know if the 6.0 uses them. Let us know Broome!

Just got word back from dealer it's the high pressure oil pump. Said oil pump feeds injectors, if cannot build oil pressure injectors fail. Three day fix have to tear it down to get to it.

I hear ya there - left my family in the Monty at a roadside river while the tow truck pulled the TV out from under the Monty and whisked it away. It was of course Memorial Day weekend, but they had it fixed same day. (sensor)

It was an experience I can assure you, it was just me and the kids side of I40, me on phone trying to get help and them arguing, what a day.

This is one drawback to a 5th wheel, if the TV breaks down, an alternate TV is harder to find. Standard TT, heck go rent a UHaul pickup and limp to the campground. But with a 5th, no rental option. It is one of the reasons, if I do run across a breakdown 5th on the road, always stop to see if they need a tow.. something I would hope others would do if it was me in the same situation.

Of course with this great site, I bet an SoS plea just about anywhere in the country would likely result in a tow vehicle to the rescue...

Hey Broome, hope your baby is still under warranty.. If not, I sure would be there when they tear her down just to make sure. Have had a dealer try a bait and switch trick on me before. He charged $$$$$ to fix a busted part that turned out to be a cheap easy fix.

Broome thanks for the update and notice of what to be on the watch for. I had a similar on my 7.3L and it turned out to be a sensor as Brad noted the first time. The second time, at 98K miles, it started, but would not move. It turned out to be the drive by wire accelerator. It is all computer controlled and the electronic module under the dash that talks to the computer to give it gas and air, went out. It was a $800 bill, but warranty cover it all....praise the 100K warranty.

Sorry to hear about your delay Broome. Hopefully you didn't have to go thru Ford's beloved roadside assistance. We found out they wouldn't tow the 5th wheel when we broke down with the '04 in Texas along I-35. They will cover the truck's tow but not anything you are towing. I was a little luckier than you I was able to limp it along to get the trailer to a safe spot.

Broome, I believe that deductible is $100 rather than $150. Helps a little.

Did you try MOCTAP? http://moctap.forumco.com/default.asp I think it was a year ago it got started and there are people all over the country that have volunteered to help others like yourself with a lift or tow when needed. I know I didn't think about it when it was happening to me, but this is something we need to share with the masses. There are a lot of us who would do anything we could to help another MOC family member.

Got it back today runs like champ, he showed th clip that holds the high pressure tube in,was very cheap made. He said this happen lot this clip if to hold the fitting is gets heated and cooled everyday and if vibrated around enough will come off. once that happens the fitting pops out, that's what happened to me. The fit is permit, steel bracket mounts over the fitting so it cannot pop off, International should have fixed this before it happens alot. According to the tech he does at least one per week with the same issues.

Broome - Glad you're back on the road. Good info. (guess I'll have a little background to discuss if mine breaks)

I blew an oil pressure hose on my 7.3 few years back and saw oil pouring down the gutter. I had it towed in to Ford about 10 blocks away. The service man said I could have drove it in, as the injectors would have shut down if it lost too much oil. I looked at him funny and said nobody in thier right mind would continue to drive a truck shooting a stream of oil out the bottom .

I had a similar problem in February 07, my 2005 F250 stopped running as I exited onto the ramp for the campground we were staying, what luck!

I had the F250 towed to Long Lewis Ford for repairs. My problem was the high oil pressure, a seal on one of the connections had let go. They replaced and I was on my way. We only lost 1 day.

If in the area and need to "visit" a Ford dealer for a repair, I highly recommend!!

Broome101 - You should have checked out MontanaOwnersAssistance thread. I would have thought there would have been one of us close enough to natch that 5er of your's to a campground instead of the side of the road. That is why we got this started last year.
Glad you back on the road, but next time check out MOC TAP. Later John
