Does anyone own?

Our first trip out with our rig we stayed at a campground where each site is privately owned. This concept has intrigued me for a while, but my dear husband had no interest till we stayed at a campground like this last month.

So does anyone here own a campsite in a campground? Can you recommend campgrounds that have sites for sale? Just looking right now into it right now, but you never know what the future holds!

We don't own a campsite, but we belong to Thousand Trails which will sell campsites in their grounds. My understanding is that if you buy a site, they can't rent it to anyone else when you are not there.

You can also purchase/rent your own lot at some of the Escapee parks. We stayed in one in Benson, AZ two years ago and the lot was actually owned by someone else and when they are not there the park leases it out.

We own the lot our home base is built on, but it's a regular corner lot in a very small town. Over the years we owned two lots in developments. One we didn't get out before it went under and then stayed to watch it go under again and so we still own the lot. The other we got out a year before it went under having seen the signs and knew them from before. Make very sure of the finances before you invest.

We own a lot in the Rancho California RV Resort in Southern CA. When we decided to sell the stick house we wanted a home base in the states that guaranteed we had a place to stay and "come home to" whenever we wanted. Cost a bit up front and we have a monthly HOA fee but it covers all the amenities for less than half the price of the cheapest/worst full hookup site in Southern CA. We first went to the park 8 years ago and really enjoyed it and considered buying but the bubble put the prices out of reach (and out of justification while still having a monthly mortgage).

You would have to look at initial cost and then ongoing cost. Also what you may make in income. You also have to consider do you want to be somewhat tied to one park. We like the idea that we are not tied to one park and can move around all we want.

We stayed next to one, Palmetto Palms, in SW Florida this winter where you own your lot. It was a mix of park models and RV's. It was very nice and the prices were not bad however the length limit on RV's was 35'. We are still keeping our eye on the place in case they change their limits.
