Stan, when we got our new rig the insurance almost doubled for the fifth wheel over the 2006 Potomac. When we questioned, they told us that rates had increased and the new rig was worth a lot more that the old one. We we sort of shocked at how much it increased. We are with Farm Bureau.

We have Progressive and have been claim free for 5+ years. They, Progressive called me last year and this is what I was advised. Since you are claim free for 5 years you now have zero deductible, so if you raise your real deductible you will save a couple of hundred of dollars. When/if you have a claim you then lower your deductible but then of course pay more. We followed her advice and now our 2008 3000RK we pay $388.00 for renewal this year. This is in Washington state. Is this comparable or have I been sold a bill of goods?

We have Allied, no claims and have made no changes to the policy in the past 3 years. We got our renewal last week and it went up $60/yr.

Hummmmm.. Our truck and camper insurance premium actually went down a bit at the last renewal. Not a bunch but we had never seen insurance go down..

we have had progressive for 6 years...no claims, etc...our deductable went to zero as well...I expected the new 2011 to increase but not the 2007 we still own and are trying to sell...that one alone went up 36% and it is parked....the new policy included a 250 deductable...the new 2011 the first 5 months was 175 and now it is 649 for 12 months... not the 400 or so we were expecting...we are getting comparable quotes from state farm, geico, etc..we'll see what happens...

I also have Progressive. Just got my renewal and can nottell any differance from last year. Currently 449.00 for full replacement on a 2009 3000RK. It thought it was reasonable. Deductable is down to 625 this year. Should be 0 next year.

I was just quoted $449 every 6 months for a new Fifth wheel costing $49,995.

I did however have a claim costing my insurance company (State Farm) $6,000....... but isn't that what insurance is for ? and that has been the only claim I have had for about 15 years on any of my RVs.

Sounds way too high to me

We have Progressive as well, and are not due a renewal for a couple of months. However, we currently pay over $800/yr for full replacement coverage. Maybe because the Big Sky is such a big ticket model, or maybe because we are in Florida. Now I wonder what we will see come November!

In our response to the Progressive question, we were pleasantly surprised when we had the new 3750FL priced as a replacement for the 2007 3400RL. We have specc'ed the same coverage, full replacement cost, disappearing deductible that started at $500, and I think it carries over since the policy does not change from what they told me, just the covered vehicle does. Anyway the new rig will be insured at a little less than twice the value of the current rig and the policy costs will go up about $10 a year. As I said, we were pleasantly surprised. We do have a multiple coverage policy since our boat is through Progressive also.

We have a 08 Big Sky and are covered National Interstate through AON/Poliseek. We have had same policy in effect since we had our Jayco trailer with only a slight increase when we got the Big Sky. We are paying 547 a YEAR. That is full replacement, all awnings and slide toppers and a 10K rider on additional personal property inside. After getting quotes from AAA and State Farm and Geico for more than 600 every 6 months totaling 1200+ a year we went with a company that deals with RVs and not just auto and boat insurance. Progressive quoted us over 800 a year... Dave

I guess my question here is how do you rate National Interstate, other than by cost? I for one have never heard of them. Have you had any claims? What experience has anyone else had? I like to save money to put into diesel fuel, but I'm a bit leery of company names I don't know. My Progressive policy expires Nov 8, and I'm looking to go with someone else.

Before we changed to Progressive, we had National Interstate and found them to be a very responsive company. We had one claim and they took care of it very promptly. Why did we change? Progressive was at a lower price--at the time.

Poliseek which used to be AON is like a free agent/broker and will get quotes from National Interstate, Progressive and several others. Even if NI increases the price a bit this year I will stick as my deductible is now down to below 200.00. NI has been around for awhile and we have had it since 06. They were ready to pay fopr repairs to the tire damage (mission explosion) on our Big Sky but because of dealer problems and a 6 week lead time we waited until the rally to have it repaired at the service center. Since they already have all the required parts in stock and unlike the dealers actually give a damn about the owners... Dave

In my opinion, insurance cost is not the only factor when choosing an insurance company, especially when it comes to Progressive.

I have State Farm and my policy is 250 deductable 170.00 per year personal property is covered with my home owner policy and the trailer is covered top to bottom Fire, Theft, while connected to the tow vehicle it has PLPD, Med, it is concidered part of the vehicle when connected to the truck.
So my agent explaned to me.

My reasons for looking to replace Progressive is pure politics. I have read that Progressive's CEO is a BIG supporter of the Progressive movement...could that be where the name came from? I am currently researching my source, but if confirmed, I will vote with my wallet, and find a new insurance company.

Not only that but I own some rental property in North Carolina, near Jay Bird and my State Farm policy just went up 35%. I am now considered in a "coastal" area. (can you spell scam?" . . . checked with Allstate, cost was (now) similar. Does this mean I can charge beach front area rental rates?
