Protruding rubber

Hi everyone, i have a piece of rubber protruding from the end of my slide topper roller. It is approx 3/16 diameter. What is the purpose of this rubber, would it be okay to cut it flush with the end cap of the roller. Did anyone ever have this problem. Thanks

Sounds like the rubber that is used to fit into the channel mounted on the camper side. It's used to guide the topper when installing. It's longer than the topper to make it easier installing.
