Off we go again

Our park host position in the Ocala Nat. Forest has come to an end. We will be leaving Fl. in 36 hrs and heading up to Naugatuck, Ct. to work for the Corps of Eng. at Hop Brook Lake Rec. area. That F350 has "Hitch Itch" real bad. 1st trip for the New Monty too.

They're calling for 60's and 70's in the upcoming weeks up here in CT. If you're taking 95 watch out of the construction on 95, if you're coming up through Pa, NY, then 84 through CT, it should be smooth sailing.

Thinking of doing this to make our retirement money last. Good luck with new assignment.

Workamping for the Corps.

We made it to Ct with the new Monty and all is well. Lived through a tornado the second week we were here. Trees down all around us but we were only hit by some smaller branches. This is our second time working for the Corps. of Engineers. They have been very good to us both times. I won't hesitate to volunteer for them again. We are having record high temps here in Ct. Our little park is in big demand. I wish more people would post on this workamping blog.

Hey back shovelhead,
What type position are you going for in TX? What other positions did you have on your previous gigs with army Corp?

What type of accommodations for your rig does Corp typicallyprovide?

The Corps has provided us with very large full hookup sites in the places we have been to. Tomorrow we arrive at our winter host position for the Corps of 'Engineers at Granger, TX. I hope that it is as great as the previous places we have been. We will be in TX until May then I have something lined up for the summer in Montana. That is also for the Corps. Feels good to be a Winter Texan again.

It has been a while since we have been out to Granger Lake, but i think I remember a very nice covered park host site at Taylor Park, which is strictly a picnic area (no RVs). I can't remember the host sites at the other parks.

our site at Friendship park, Granger Lake is more than what we expected. We are in what they call volunteer village. The sites are more than 100 yds apart. it has a covered enclosure for a picnic table with a fire ring nearby. I foresee a great winter.

The info for the corps availabilities is listed on Volunteer. gov. If you are near a corps location that you are interested in you could go to their office and speak with a ranger in charge.
