Info for 2011 Ram CTD Owners

I received a call from my dealer regarding a recall to check the tie-rod ends. While it was there I mentioned that I thought the mileage was off compared to a friends 2011(mine was an early build his was a later build) and I asked if there were any software updates for mine. The writer checked and said there was a new general update that addressed a bunch of things but not mileage. They installed it anyway and I've noticed an immediate difference of about 2-3 mpg on the gauge (I'll have to wait for a tank or two to be sure) and the engine feels more responsive. Anyway something to keep in mind the next time you are at the dealer.

Good to know... I'll have to get mine in and see what the shop says. Thanks for the heads up!

Mike,
Was there a number for the software upgrade? Mine is in the shop right now and would like to have them upgrade mine too.

My batteries went dead while my truck was sitting in the garage for 3 days, nothing was on, keys in the house, no lights on or anything. I had to put a charger on 1 for about 1.5 hours and then the truck finally started. Dealer cant find anything wrong...

Tom - No they didn't mention a number. All I know is that it was released in December and addresses a number of issues. I also was having a problem with the seat and steering wheel heaters not coming on with the remote start and they applied a software update to the TIPM(Totally Integrated Power Module) Which controls just about everything that the ECU(Engine Control Unit) doesn't. That may be the source of your problem. I think I remember someone on one of the RAM forums saying they had the same symptoms you mentioned and that the TIPM was not shutting down some function when the truck was turned off. Hope that helps.

Over on diesel truck resource, some members that had the early 2011's said the update brought them near the 800 torque numbers, without the torque converter upgrade.
So they said. I onlu have 1500 miles on mine and looking forward to towing with a load so i can start this engine breaking in.
