What to do with the outside power cord.

With the power cord plugging straight into the back of the Montana the weight of the cord pulls down on the end pretty good. It has pulled the outside protective rubber from the plug. What has anyone done to keep it from pulling like this. A new plug for the female end is pretty expensive. I have thought of taking and cutting some plastic from a bottle and wrapping it around the end and taping it. Anyone got some ideas???

We kinda wrap our cord around the ladder. Takes some stress off the connection.

Dave I hang mine down though the ladder like carol and al as for the plug mine had about 1" pulled away from the end so I wrapped it with rubber tape and then went over that with a good grade of electrical tape and its been doing fine for 2 or 3 of yrs. I don't think it will hurt anything seems like just the cover pulling back from the heat outside. JMHO

Shazbot ... my ladder is on the wrong side I'm off to find that just right sappling with a fork in it at the right height. Why not just take the plug apart and trim as needed, then make a little 2X4 stand. Paint it up and Walla ... yard art. I hear heat causes giddyness ... 101 here today and I had to be out in it.

You could take an old camera tripod and bungee the cord to it. Just a wild idea that came into my head. Trying to find a used tripod at a garage sale might be the hard part.

I too hang on ladder but for another reason. We kind of gently feed it through a couple rungs and loop it back. Both to get pressure off and make it a little harder to steal! Where we live copper wire is a mighty big temptation. Wife even wraps a locking cable through it to make it appear/look harder to steal. Several reportedly stolen from campgrounds we have visited.

Like several others have posted I used to be able to place it on the ladder to help hold it. However, on the 3400 we have the ladder and it's not close enough to benefit anything now. I have had to shorten a previous cable where it did what you are saying has happened but gravity seems to always win. Don’t ask me how I know that!

Idea... how about making a small stand out of pvc pipe to support it? I’ve seen some really creative things come from this forum.

Yeah, my ladder is on the opposite side of the rig too just my luck. Hmmm the camera tripod idea with a hose clamp on top is a thought.

Sometimes I loop the cable through the lower rung on the ladder, other times not. Most times, not. It has worked this way for over 12 years. The insulation pulled back out of the plug about the second time we used the rig. To me, it was a manufacture defect. They didn't keep enough insulation on the cable inside the plug.

We used to hang off the ladder, but our latest Montana also has the ladder on the wrong side. But since I now have a hitch on the back courtesy of keystone, I hang off the hitch with a bungee cord.

Send a message via Yahoo to NCFischers
Dave McNair puts a piece of PVC pipe that's a bit longer than the plug over the cord. It keeps the cord straight.

I would pull the end apart and check the wires. When this happened to my powe cord, I pulled the end apart and found that my ground wire was out of the lug.

So I re-did all the wires and made sure all the screws were nice and tight.
