Ladder Storage Question....Help!

A while back I read a post on how several of you mounted a 5" square plastic fence post to the ceiling of the storage compartment to hold their folding ladder in. I think this idea is great and I have purchased the fence post but can't remember how they mounted in to the ceiling of the basement storage cabinet. If anyone can share how they mounted it, and pictures would be nice too, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks in advance, Scott

I use the same thing for sewer hose storage under the basement. Used heavy wire ties and slid them thru between the belly pan and the horizontal bracing. You could probably do the same thing with the aluminum floor joists inside the basement. You could also bore a couple of holes thru the bottom or the side and then with a long drill bit, or an extension, screw it to the wall and/or the ceiling.

Hi Scott,

I mounted mine to a 2X4 lagged to the aluminum joists so it would clear the top of the basement door. Then I fabricated two aluminum straps to fit around the fence post and bolted it to the 2X4. Pretty simple. I attached a picture of it from both sides of the basement. Hope this helps.

Don

I put my ladder above the LP gas drums. cut a hole in the metal on 1 side and a few angle irons to slide it on and its above the front compartment that you neve can use anyway. sailer

Thanks everyone for the tips and ideas. I like the idea of using the square post for storing the ladder up out of the way. This forum is GREAT for getting good ideas!

Here's one more idea. I cut a series of 1/2 inch holes that aligned with the floor joists. With the 1/2 inch holes looking down, insert a 3/4 or 1 inch self tapping, self drilling screw in a socket on your drill motor and reach up through the hole and screw through the other side of the fence post into your floor joist.

I also drilled a couple of 1/4 inch holes at each end of the fence post and inserted a 6 inch bolt with a wing nut to prevent the ladder from sliding out of the fence post as you travel.

Alan, Thanks for the idea. I was thinking about doing somthing like that but haven't had a chance to get out to the driveway and look at the camper. I might go this route.

Thanks again, Scott
