Aluminum Wheels

I have a 3400 Monty (2009) with aluminum wheels, and have had 5 blow-outs with the Marathon tires. I want to upgrade to the G614 tires but can't find the psi rating on the wheel. The wheels are at the Goodyear dealer right now, and they have looked every where for a number to go by. Is there anyone out there with my year and model with this wheel and the G614s installed. Just a note Good year is giving a credit of $172.00 per tire, I have two of them at there store. Any info would be great. Thanks

ON the inside of the wheels there should be a stamp of some sort, it is usually between the spokes. If they say TR6 anywhere, they are not certified for 110 psi nor 3750 lbs. TO2 and TO4 wheels from Tredit are rated for the higher pressure and weight....Hope this helps....

On our 2010 3455sa aluminum wheels it is molded into the wheel on the backside on 1 spoke.

This is what it looks like on our T02 wheels: T02 Wheel Stamp.

I am assuming you have TR6 wheels which look like this:

You can call Tredit at 800.537.2925 and they can give you the right answer. Here is a link to their website as well: Tredit

Hmmm, I was of the understanding TR6 rims ARE rated for 110 psi and 3750 lbs so long as they have those numbers stamped on the rims OR they have the factory sticker on the rim, placed there by the factory. But those TR6 rims that were stamped with a lower rating and did not have the sticker applied by the factory at the time of manufacture are not so rated. Has that been changed?

We've had the G614's on our TR6 rims (with factory sticker) for more than a year and the above is what I was told. I understand at one of the rallies the mfr handed out stickers to be placed on those TR6 rims not previously carrying the higher rating but later they said they did that in error and those rims do not have the rating. Still, those previously rated that high by the factory are ok. Has that changed?

I would think a TR6 wheel is a TR6 wheel. Different ratings for them in reality seems unlikely. The most likely scenario from what I have read is the manufacturer is covering their behind because they no longer make the wheel. There are TR6 wheels out there with 3042, 3500, and 3750 pounds stamped on them. Several members are running G tires with not one issue reported. It is another matter of who knows? But I say Tredit has a wheel style they cannot make their mind up what it will hold. I get the stickers were handed out in error explanation, but what about all the different factory stampings out there? LOST!!!!!!!!

call the manufacture of the rims and they can tell you the rating.

They will tell you the rating for THIS WEEK. It changes quite often.

ANYONE WITH TREDITS TR6 WHEEL SHOULD CALL TREDIT AND SPEAK TO TIM BALL, VICE PRESIDENT. HE IS WILLING TO GIVE YOU THE "REAL SCOOP" ON THESE WHEELS AND WHAT HAPPENED TO THE CERTIFICATION FOR THE HIGHER PRESSURE AND WEIGHT RATINGS...... Please don't take my word for it, but call him, as I did. jackels picture of the TR6 is what they look like.

Must be top-secret if only Tim Ball can relate the information, surely someone is cognizant of what the story is and can let those on forum seeking this information know. I would not think every forum member that has this question would have to call Tim Ball???

I was hoping by now someone would respond to Bingo's request with the information requested. I'll keep watching this thread for awhile. In hopes.

This entire subject was covered in an earlier post by richfaa, who spoke to Tredit personally. I also spoke to Tredit personally and the outcome was that a mistake was made by Tredit in certifying the TR6 wheel. It may have been just the early models like the 2006, which is mine. I received the written certification and new stickers to place on my wheels two years ago while at the Fall Rally. I have since found out, after having the 614's installed, that Tredit says that was a mistake, my year wheels WERE NOT retested to the higher standards. I WOULD SUGGEST THAT IF YOU HAVE THE TR6 WHEELS AND WANT TO PUT THE G RATED TIRES ON THEM, THAT YOU CALL TREDIT. I'm not trying to be a Chicken Little, just passing on what I was told and feel everyone needs to assure themselves by calling Tredit. Probably,, the wheel STAMPED with the higher psi and higher weight is OK. I would rather be safe than sorry......

My 2011 326rlt tires are labeled with the 110 psi and 3750 lb rating on the inside of the one of the spokes. Haven't upgraded the tires yet, but after all the comments marathons (mine are still like new with only 1000 miles), I am about to look into switching.
Several people said Goodyear gave them some credit for the Marathons - I've called two Goodyear dealers and they won't discount the G614s at all, and won't give me any credit for the OEM tires. Kind of a pricey alternative - but a blow out can really ruin a trip.

Good Year will not help until after the Marathons fail. Tough situation. Leaving them on is a huge risk for sure.

Absolutely agree.
I changed mine out at 800 miles. I figured that one blowout would likely cost me in damage to the Monty what I spent on new tires... not to mention possible injury to DW, myself or others on the road.
Good luck with whatever you decide.

With all the blowouts we've had with the Chinese tires over the years, we've never experienced any kind of handling anomaly. So I don't worry about that part of it. However, the last blowout blew body parts across five lanes of busy San Diego freeway (I-8). We felt very fortunate there were no accidents caused by that debris blowing across the freeway nor from someone trying to dodge the pieces after they stopped moving. And thanks to the CHP officer who stopped shortly after and retrieved all the debris.

This picture shows the debris after the officer retrieved it from the driving lanes and also shows how busy that freeway was. It is a wonder there were no accidents. The black tire strip is from our blown tire.

You might see if the dealer you buy 614s from might try and re-sell your nearly new Marathons. The dealer I worked with sold my Marathons a few weeks after I had the 614s installed, got $300 for the 5 Marathons, took some of the bite out of the price of the 614s. The Marathons seem to work fine on smaller TT or Utility Trailers. Worth asking.

We had in our purchase agreement on our new camper for the dealer to switch the four Marathons for GY614s but didn't change the spare. After delivery, and my brain kicked in for a moment, paid the dealer $200 for a 614 and gave him the spare. They switched the tires for "free".

Ok, been wanting to ask this tire question for months but was reluctant because some may think I was not sincere. Here goes;
Why spend good money to buy a 5th 614 to sit under the Monty and deteriorate when the Marathon would suffice as a spare. It's not like your going to use the Marathon for thousands of miles. Size doesn't matter either for a few miles.

I was looking at our rims and without taking them off the only thing I could see was “Made in China.” I’m not very confident that they would have a higher rating.
