Bike Hitch

We ordered a new 3400 that has the "bike accessory" on the rear. Is the bike accessory a 1 1/4" receiver? I can see it in the floorplan on line and in the brochures but can not tell the size. I think they added this on the 2011 models. Thanks

Yes it is, I just bought a 1 1/4" to 2" adapter at Harbor Freight yesterday so I would not have to buy a new bike rack.

Do a search on "bike rack", as there has been a fair amount of discussion on the subject. I have a 1.25 hitch on our 3150RL that came with the monty and I have a concern on how stable the bikes would be on it, because there is a lot of bounce at the back of the trailer. I considered the 1.25 to 2" conversion bar, but it sticks out a fair amount, which will give a fair amount of movement/vibration. I plan to take my monty to a welder to get the 1.25'' receiver cut off and 2" welded in place, plus get the welder to try and make the bolt on hitch more secure by welding on some braces. Not sure about you, but I have followed a trailer that had bikes dragging on the road behind the trailer.

I also bought two 1" x 16' ratchet-type straps to secure the rack to prevent side-to-side motion. We are also fortunate to be able to see the rack and the bikes at all times with the rear-view camera. We will know more tomorrow evening after the nine hour trip to the beach!!

Yes, have seen many comments on bike racks. Trading a Cardinal that has a back bumper for sewer hose storage. We carried two bikes on a rack attached to the bumper but had straps to the ladder to try to minimize the back and forth. We probably traveled 5 to 7 K miles with that rack and always checked the bumper to see if cracks were developing. No problems noticed. Straps will be added to the rack on the Montana also. This is something to keep an eye on. Thanks,

Son-in-law has a Carnal and used a ladder bike rack for years but of course the bikes have gotten heaver. Last year he got home and the ladder and bikes were held on by the roof ladder bolts and one other ladder mount, he was lucky.

Our 3150 came with a 1 1/4" hitch and it was easy to unbolt and bolt a 2" Hidden Hitch to the brackets with an additional bolt to the frame. I had to cut the length of the Hidden Hitch 2" tube to fit in between the welded brackets on the 3150. Very little modification needed. The Hidden Hitch was left over from the 08 Monty we owned and our bike rack was for a 2" receiver. The 2" is much more stable than the 1 1/4" to 2" conversion we tried on the 3150.

The receiver on our 3400 is 1.25" and has a low max weight of something like 300 lb.

I put on a 2 inch receiver and still had a very bad bounce so ended up putting on (2) 1 1/4 receivers as outriggers
