winter storage

Being a new Montana owner living in Pa. How do you protect your coach? Is a cover recommended or necessary?

Some folks use them, some do not. I personally do not use them for a couple of reasons. If they were necessary, then the rigs would come equipped with them from the manufacturer. If they were necessary, then the rigs would be covered at the dealers during the winter months and I have never seen a covered rig at a dealer. The last reason is they are very susceptible to causing abrasion and rubbing on your rig if they are not installed exactly right. The wind causes chafing at the corners and other contact points. The last reason is they cost a bunch!! As with all things, it comes down to a personal choice, but I have listed some of the reasons that I personally do not use them.

I think it's more important to keep your roof clean than to worry about covering it. As Bingo says, abrasion is an issue. I've seen covered boats have their varnish and paint taken off after a winter under cover (improperly covered). Some covers are like sand paper after they get to be a few years old. The rubber/vinyl or whatever wears away and you're left with just strong, abrasive, threadbare corners wherever it touches anything.

Stay away from pine trees especially, and keep berries and fruity things off of it. Don't park under weak limbs either.

There is also the option to stock up on Margaritas and park it below 30 degrees N.
