LEAKY SLIDE

Anyone else having leaks in your Montana around the slide during heavy blowing rain? We have a 2009, 4 slides, the largest one has leaked twice in a year. Per Keystone this is a problem caused by too much rain filling up the gutter/trench which takes the rain to the bottom of the slide. When the trench gets too much water in it, the water flows into the 5er at the floor level. No fix, no suggestions from them. Just wondering if this is as common a problem as Keystone would have us believe.

I had this problem once. One of my rubber seals was not extracted all the way. If my seals do not come out all they way I use my awning rod and slide it between the seal and camper. We were in tropical storm IDA and got about 7 inches of rain in a couple of days with no leaks. Never heard of the explaination you got from Keystone unless this is a problem with newer rigs.

I had leaks in the bedroom slide when the slide moved out of alignment. Then at Q this winter during heavy rain and wind while having hydraulic problems.

Trailer Leak (Slideout): Shortly after we purchased our 2009 Montana we had wet carpet when it rained. The carpet was soaked in the left rear slideout. We had it back to the dealer but, they could never seem to find the leak. About the third time this happened it was at the dealer and we had a heavy rain the night before. After more investigation they found on the (back) side of the slideout there is a piece of moulding near the bottom. When it was installed at the factory it was set "too low". The water would run off the slideout roof and down the wall hitting the moulding and running inside the trailer. After they moved and recalked the moulding it has been dry.

If that is what Keystone is saying then tell them to fix your rig so the water drains properly. This is just someone back at the shop not feeling like they want to fix something. If you buy that crap, they are off the hook.

These rigs have been around for a while and every slide leak problem I've heard of was caused by something that required someone to fix it. So if sight unseen they are saying this you need to talk to someone else that knows better. A seal that doesn't seal doesn't sound like much of a seal no matter how much rain.

Even from what they are saying, I would tell them,"If a gutter collects enough rain to overflow into the rig, then LOWER the drain so it doesn't." Duh! Still sounds like their problem to me that they need to fix.

It's problems like this that make it well worthwhile to come to the Annual Rally. Darrel and his crew would find it and fix it.
