3455SA STAIR VENTS
Does anyone know what the function of the two (2) stair vents are on the 3455SA model?? Do they have access to the outside or only to the basement area??

They allow the air in the rig to be circulated back to the furnace located on the other side of the vents. They are also on my '06 3500 and I've opened up that area under there for other reasons and this is what I saw.
Others have put hinges on these for shoes storage and the like, but after using my shoes for any length of time I wouldn't want my smelly shoes in any circulatory area. Others have also covered these vents with the air conditioning is on to prevent any cold air from sneaking out through there. Hopefully, this could give you some ideas for other things, but there is definitely a purpose for them.

Larry,
Here is a link to what I have done with the panels under our stair steps in our 3455SA: New Vents Under Steps.

We're doing the same as Jackal, got one done, now just have to be home long enough to finish the second. Our converter is also under the bottom step along with a rats nest of wires.

Our 2007 3400 has one vent only - the converter is over the closet. When Keystone went to 2 vents under the stairs, I questioned this and was told that the engineers discovered that one vent was marginally adequate as a return air vent for that furnace. I thought that the re-positioning of the converter under the stairs was the main reason. Apparently, the change would have been made anyway.
I have never modified ours and Keystone has never volunteered to re-do ours, but that was the reason I was given as to why the change was made. If you only have one vent, make sure you get max air flow through there...
