Northern Breeze by Ventilne fan?

I have this fan in my roof and it is a pain to open and close and has always been that way. It stops moving and have to reverse it, stops again (have to rock it back & forth). If I get it open then have to go thru the same process to get it closed. Looked at te wall switch and don't see where anything that would be causing the problem no electronics that I can see. Does that mean the prblem is at the fan?
I can get it open and closed but it anin't fun

Cyrus, The fantastic fan that many of us have acts tha same way at times. About once a year I have to get on the roof, open the vent cover, clean the seal good with alcohol, then treat the seal with some dry lube. Jim

It does this even when it's open and you try to close it and the gasket is not touching. I have to keep changing directions to get open then same thing to close it. Have given up a couple times and got in chair to manually close it.

Check the two screws that attach the gearbox actuator to the lid. The circuit is torque sensitive, and if those screws are loose, the actuator will bind, causing the unit to stop. Oh, and the fan is most likely obsolete, like ours, so there are no parts available. They do offer good tech support on line; that is where I got my info from. I intend to replace ours with either Maxxair or Fantastic brand.

WD40 will not cause damage to electrical connections or motors. It was discovered by NASA. Water Disperser 40th batch. You can spray the inside of an automobile distrubutor cap dripping wet and latch and the engine will start and run fine. It will not conduct elect. I would not be afraid to spray it on the gear drive or the motor. Might help, don't think it will hurt.
