Converting wireless camera
Has anyone taken their Voyager camera and converted it to a wired system? If so, what parts do I need and where can I get them. The sending unit has gone out three times on my wireless. Love it when it works.

try www.tadbrothers.com. They have 100s of back up systems.

OK on edit I didn't have much time this morning. I got my back up system about a month ago and haven't used it except to test it out. It is wireless and will still work at least 70 feet but picture quality starts to go down. It probably isn't as clear as units that cost twice as much but picture quality is acceptable. It was easy to hook up the instructions were very simple and easy to understand. It came with all the wires you need to use it wired or wireless except a connector between the camper and truck. They have units priced from $75 to $750 or so. My unit was $224 delivered. It has one camera and a 7 inch screen.

Thanks for the input. My existing monitor and camera work fine. It is the wireless sending unit in the "puck" on the cap that goes out. I contacted ASA Electronics. They are the manufacturer/distributor of the Voyager unit. I bought a new harness that plugs in where my wireless module is located on the monitor. I also bought a 50' cable to go from the front junction through the truck to the monitor. I will start converting it this weekend. I know where it plugs into the "puck" on the front of the unit and I know there is a junction box up in the bedroom closet. Hopefully it will be as simple as plugging the camera into the cable and the other end into the monitor. I thought maybe someone else bought their Montana with the camera and had issues with the wireless. For now, I will just leave the cable coiled in the bedroom and get it working there and run the cable once I have my new truck. Hated to buy a whole new system when the one I have is already wired through the trailer and has power. I simply want to convert it to wired from the front of the trailer to the monitor in the cab.

I'll be watching your progress, I have a semi wireless also with a transmitter on the pin box transmitting thru the back window of my truck to the receiver/monitor in the cab. So far so good, but if the transmitter fails, I would be interested to see if it can be converted to a wired installation.

For $100, I ordered a cable to the monitor that plugs into the extended cord and provides power and a 50' cable from the camera to the cab. Great signal. If you want to change from wireless to wired, you just need to order the two cables. Take the puck off of the front, then pull the camera wire through the hole. You will find the wire from the camera to the circuit board has a quick disconnect on it. I enlarged the hole in the bottom of the puck and pulled the cable thru. Then tie wrapped the cable to the umbilical cord. Once I get my new truck, I'll fancy up the cable from the cab back to the umbilical. If anyone wants to do this, PSVCAOM562A for Voyager is what you need along with a cable to run the length of your truck.

Question for those that have these installed..
How/where do you run the cables to the front of the tailer???
Thanks.

The factory install runs the cables in the ceiling. If doing a new install, I think running the cable through the belly would be the easiest. I didn't have to worry since mine was already run to the cap. I opened up the opening in the bottom of the puck to bring the cable through.

Ron has it correct, our dealer installed system has the camera above the rear window with the wiring running down the side of the rear end cap to the bottom of the rig then along the belly to the front. Dealer went through the propane compartment to access the pinbox area. Our connection is the heavy duty Voyager connector and is mounted on the pinbox and the other connector is in the sidewall of the truck bed.

Jim (ncfischers) and I installed cameras on my unit. We mounted the rear camera above the windows on the fiberglass. Drilled a hole in the fiberglass for the coax lead. Put a low profile panel box in the rear wall of one cupboard which gives us access to the splice and allowed the cable to run down to the floor. We ran the wire down to the under belly through a hole in the floor. Put the coax in a protective tube that is tie wrapped to the frame up to the front battery box compartment. Forced a path for the coax to the hitch and wired in a junction box there. Two side cameras are also routed from the propane compartments to the front hitch.
I have a patch cable from trailer to truck. The coax for the truck also runs in protective ducting from the rear fender to the cab area coming in through the engine fire wall access.
I feel solid wiring makes a much more reliable system.

Latest update. The wired camera system is working great. But a new opportunity presented itself. When I ordered my new Dodge 35oo (built but not shipped), one of the options I selected was a CHMSL camera that views the bed. Unfortunately, one of the other options knocked that out. I was a little upset, but I thought - don't I have two camera inputs? Why yes I did. So, I ordered a second camera from RV cams and it will work out great. Plus, I have the other options that I wanted. Ready to hit the road in a little over a week. Added bonus - $138 vs $315, win again.

Love it when a plan comes together. Even without our influence.
Pictures please on new truck.

John, as soon as that truck hits, I will definitely post pics. By the way, I think it was Tim at RVCams was very friendly and helpful. I hooked up both cameras to the monitor. A single button push switches between the two and will make it great for hooking up with the Mega Cab. I am anxious to get situated and start our trip home.
