More Ice Maker
Our ice maker started to make a nasty rattling noise the last time we used it. I just took it apart and found the source of the noise. The cooling fan has a bad bearing. I'm glad it wasn't the compressor. Now I need to find a replacement fan and we're back in business.

Really Jim, you are starting to sound as cheap as I am. Even I went to Target and got one!! Now with that being said, and since you are now the residential MOC ice maker repairer, I may have to tote our Camping World special (that died like the first one after less than a year) along to the Mid-Atlantic rally for you to take a look see!! Then if it is repairable, I would be in the real wealthy crowd.......imagine, owning three functional ice makers!!!

I went over to Target last night and got one for $109. A bit smaller than the one we had previously but big enough. Poured some water in it today and turned it on. Never made any ice at all but ran and hummed nicely. POS. Bringing it back later today.

That reminds me, I need to take the new one out of the box and try it before I take it to the rig. I am trusting it will at least make ice!!

We tried two of them a few years ago without much luck. We ended up buying a 3 cu ft refer/freezer for the front closet of our 3400 and make ice the old fashioned way. They call them ice trays. We keep a gal bag of ice in the main freezer and use the ice trays all the time. Hasn't broke yet. Also have more refer and freezer room, however a little less storage room in that closet. This is a good solution for fulltimers......I never liked the ice the portable units made, very porous ice that did not last long. Perhaps the gizmos are better now.......

I am amazed at the diversity of the Montana Owners. O how we love our solar panels and ice makers.

Mike,
The ice makers are an easy justification. If you use any amount of ice at all (our family averaged at least a bag a day) the economics can quickly make the decision for you. Assuming an average price of $2.50 for a bag of ice versus a $100-$120 ice maker, the pay back on the ice maker is 40-50 bags of ice (for us that about a year). So if the ice maker lasts more than a year, it is worth it.

Mike,
Put the solar panels on so I can run the ice maker and fridge while traveling.

I'm w/Bingo, too. Haven't bought ice for the cooler since we got our icemaker!

Remembered to fire up the Target special this evening and am pleased to report it is cranking out ice. It is definitely smaller than our Magic Chef, but I actually think it will be even better in the rig since it will not take up as much space. I guess it is like everything else, pay the same price or a little more for the new down-sized version. The new American way of value!!
