I just had a new galley tank installed last Monday at Choo Choo RV in Chattanooga, TN. They did a great 1 day job for $942.

What's with all this tank problems I keep reading about. Before this Montana I had three SOB of the same manufacture. A 1996,1999 and a 2004. I went to three national rallies and was on their forum for over ten years. I never heard of the first tank problem. The tanks were about same size as Montana. Looks like a tank can be built that will last.

I think the Montana issues have a lot to do with them not being supported in the middle.

Just my opinion....It is not the tank it is the installation of the tank that is the problem. Proper strapping would IMO solve the problem. We have had two leaking galley tanks and two leaking black tanks on this 13 3402.We also had leaking tanks on our 06 3400.

Craig, trust you have had someone else fix the tanks...hence needing again. I didn't trust anyone to do it...found top seam issues...split on bottom...fixed both with plasti-mend and did my own support straps. But I will admit that not everyone will enjoy taking out screws to drop the plastic bottom and doing the work themselves or is healthy enough to do it. All the more important to find a really good, qualified repair person to do the work...not some rv dealer. And a good external tank monitor will go a long way to help to eliminate overfilling. Hope I can stay healthy enough to do anything needed on this one. Best of luck in getting a new tank. John

Are the problems around the drain into the tanks or drains out of the tanks? Or maybe the tank seams themselves. Maybe the vent stack connection. I don't think the galley tank has a vent out the roof. Or do they.

In general they pull loose at the top seam and around the inlet. The tanks will sag from the weight of the liquid in them and there is nothing to hold them up.

Lost the top seam for about a foot or more and that was on the end that faces the entry door...ie, farest away from inlet. Split on bottom was almost directly below where grey water enters tank on the 3800, which is about 60% of the door side and 40% from the street side. There is a vent for each of my tanks. AND yes...as rich said...these things expand a lot as they fill with stuff. I used metal plumbers strap encased in plastic tubing for supporting my galley tank secured with bolts and nylock nuts through the holes in the strap. I re-sealed the whole top seam all the way around the tank to make it stronger and one big 4x6 patch on the bottom split. John

After reading about this issue for some time I removed the bottom pan and strapped all the tanks, fresh water was already done, took some time but not terribly difficult. We`ll see.
