We drove part of that route with Jolly, sans Tana. We were going to depart the Valley by doing just what you are asking about. After driving part of it, when it came time to leave the Valley, we drove the other way. Many miles out of our way, but, so worth it.
I think I did a google search on the name of the road and searched the National Park web site for road data.

I did it in 2012. No problem at all for me. I don't recall any scary curves or steep inclines.

Thanks for your comments. We are planning on using this route in about 3 weeks after visiting Death Valley for 4or 5 days.

What time of year are you going? There's some high points along that route. If you are curious I can send you a Trip Plan I plotted with RVPNG2013. I can't post it here because the file is too big but I plotted the elevations about every 5 miles and there are several places the altitude is over 5,000 ft, so I wouldn't recommend this in winter.

We did it in 2004 and will never do it again. To this day, it was the most stressful and dangerous trip with steep inclines and descents with a ton of switchbacks and elevation markers from below sea level in Death Valley to 8000 feet above sea level . Buy the book outlining every road west of the Mississippi River so you know what your getting yourself into. I wrote a thread about our experience on that road before and tried to warn travelers to take the the longer route around Death Valley to Lone Pine,Ca. I will be glad to write it again if you want me to. Hope this helps your decision.

It does go from 46 ft to 4880 from StovePipe Wells to Lone Pine. But for the life of me, I remember no sharp curves or very steep grades. However, I don't consider a 1 or 2 mile grade of 6 or 7 percent to be bad. (I have been over the 'Oh my God' road going into Big Horn mountains, so I may be biased.
