Ft. Sill / Lawton, OK

Our youngest has enlisted in the Army and will soon be graduating from Basic Training. We will be going to his graduation ceremony at Ft. Sill and we are looking for recommendations on where to stay. There appear to be several campgrounds in the surrounding area and we have noticed that there is one on the base as well. Can families of soldiers in training use the base facilities? If not, do you have any campground recommendations?

If you have a TL CG Directory, it will have Ft Sill's phone number in it. Call and ask them...all military installations have really tightened down entrance requirements. Normally they have a 100% ID check.

We have used many Military Family Camp grounds, and have never had a issue entering or exiting. They do have a 100% ID check when entering the Military Bases. Another good reason to use the Military base is security and they always have excellent facility for working out. I was stationed at Ft Sill in 1968 when I returned from Vietnam, however the camping I did wasn't in a RV!!!! You can Google Military Family Campgrounds or Ft Sill and get the info. Thank your Son for serving our Country. If you have a weapon make sure you understand the rules. GBY....

We stayed at Witchita Mountains Wildlife Refuse. A great campground in the midst of roaming buffalo and a super hamburger joint in the town of Meers, claimed to serve the biggest hambuger in the US (you be the judge). We would go back again, great park. Just West of Lawton.
