I would fix it as well.
It's a shame the dealer cant fix it because they were all trained on the Allison trans and should be able to do the work.
I doubt the Allison is smoked at 80k miles but it makes sense the converter may be suspect because that is the weak link, I never understood why GM removed the Allison converter and installed there own.

Wow, you would have thought someone would have wondered what the outcome was before 9 months went by. Guess I REALLY forgot this update. He got a rebuilt tranny installed which came with a pretty good warranty. They put a quick 400 miles on it or so prior to hooking back up to their toy hauler. They have probably towed another 1,000 miles or more now and everything is good.
