Hello Marine, lunch is on us...

DW & I spent a wonderful day with our four and two year oldgrandbabies on their very first train trip (went down to San Diego on the "Coaster"). Sitting right next to us was a young Marine sitting next to us with his dress uniform laid carefully on the table. Starting in Oceanside we made each stop as planned then got off prior to the last stop on the Coaster itinerary. As we left I politely tapped him on the shoulder (he had to remove the ear plugs from his ears), and then we thanked him for his service, mentioned "Semper Fi" in respect of his selected service branch, then handed him $20 and asked him to enjoy lunch on us at the next and last stop. His faced beamed with a smile as he was understandably surprised as we exited the train. A smile on his face and warmth in our heart. Can't beat the feeling. We knew it was for kids like him that we were able to have such a wonderful day of freedom with our grandkids.

Thank you Art, from a Marine myself. What a great thing you did. What you just did is prompt me to doing the same thing with a Marine I see on the street or where ever. Called "Pay it Forward"

Again thanks Art

Awesome thing to do!

To add to that I was at our local QFC when I saw a young couple at the register with two very young kids.

The young man was in the 82nd Airborne. Probably stationed locally at JBLM.

I stood in the background waiting for their groceries to be rung up. Mostly baby food for the kids.

As they were getting out their cash I intervened and handed the cashier my debit card, thanked this young family for their service and wished them a good day.

They were speechless as was the cashier. They thanked me many times to which I replied no, thank you.

Only my wife knew of this prior to this post. Sure made me feel good.

The gentleman had his uniform in plastic (from the dry cleaners?) lying flat on the table. Gotta admit, the Marine dress blues are mighty glorious. He was sitting next to it listening to his tunes. But he was high and tight, obviously a Marine sitting next to his uniform and dressed in civvies. Fire5er, I guess the rule still applies.

Many thanks for what you have done for this Marine or other soldiers. Many times when I was traveling on duty, I would reach for ask for the check or reach for my wallet, and was told it was paid for and the note would have a simple "Semper Fl" or "Carry On" on the back. Or sit at the airport lounge and a beer would be sent with a wave from the back of the room.
I pay it forward for those who serve today, and have been.
