Myth Busters Flagstaff edition!
Myth: Police in Flagstaff are ...a nasty word...: Confirmed.
You can't park at Walmart overnight without getting run off...
Busted.
The traffic is ALWAYS rush hour and congested: Confirmed.
You want to spend as little time there as possible: Confirmed.

There aren't too many good choices for RV camping in or near Flagstaff either. Go down the hill (I-40) to Cottonwood, Sedona, Camp Verde, Page Springs, or even the Casino (free) near Distant Drums RV park.

we like flagstaff as a temperature moderate place to stop and stock up , never tried overnighting
always 2 niters at a national forest cg a little north or south of town, also there are dispersed camping areas in the forests south of town
used book store Bookmans a must stop for pulp fiction and more

Not widely known, but Flagstaff is about the same elevation as Denver, and they can get some brutal snow and ice in January and February.

The Casino lot is nice and comfy here in Camp Verde, we will head for Cottonwood and the Goodyear tire store there, left Flagstaff as soon as possible this morning, about 6:00

Had a several inch snow experience there last winter on the way to the Grand Canyon. Not much of anything on either side, but snowing like a bugger there.

Actually, Flagstaff is listed at 7000 feet. Denver, the mile-high city is about 2,000 feet lower, at 5,280 feet.

Was in Phoenix a number of years ago on a business trip for two weeks in late December. Planned a quick trip to the Canyon for Saturday. But on Friday it snowed 19" in Flagstaff. I figured they would plow the roads pretty quick so decided on Sunday. Local weather guessers said snow was above the 6,000' mark.
Drove up Sunday morning to bright blue sky and no snow/ice, UNTIL I passed the highway sign "Elevation 6,000'". Almost immediately snow appeared along the ditches and soon on everything. After a few miles, the road was plowed but covered with glaze ice. Once you pass the 6,000' sign not many options for turning around, so I carefully went on into Flag. Guy there said I would probably be ok if I went west on I-40. So I turned west on I-40 and quickly dropped back down in elevation. Road was soon dry again and I went on up to the Canyon at the Williams turnoff. Completely dry road right up to the entrance gate to the Canyon, then a fresh blanket of several inches of new snow.
A once in a lifetime experience. Almost no one in the park or at any of the scenic overlooks. Mostly just me and the Canyon. Bright blue skies, new snow, temp about 40 degrees, absolutely no wind, didn't even need a jacket. It was so quiet you could actually hear the river rushing below at a couple of the overlooks. You could still freely drive the west rim then. Would love to have that experience again.
Another trip I had to go to Holbrook for a day. Decided to stay in Flagstaff and drive over. Woke up to snow that morning, but when I reached Holbrook it was sunny and warm.
So yes, it can come some pretty good snow storms in Flag and nothing in all other directions.

Our family living in Flag reports today they see new snow on the SF Peaks from last night, but thankfully no tornados.

My comments from experiences of my 2 visits there are no reflection of the many nice people that live there. The lady in Walmart was super nice, the Police dispatcher was extremely nice and friendly when I called, the tire store manager where we stopped was helpful and nice, and the 2 people we met in the parking lot were nice to us when we were asking about directions.
Man, we had a downpour in Cottonwood last night, the clouds let loose. Guess Flagstaff got it too.

I have Step-sister that lives in Flagstaff, so I will just stay with her if I ever get out there before I retire. My dad lived their about 3-4 years after a fall in Victor Montana and broke his hip. My Step-sister is a nurse, and he wasn't getting the care need in Montana, so move them to Flagstaff to a assisted living place.
The SF Mountains are over 12,000 feet, almost 13,000 feet I don't remember. Here is the view from there bungalow SF peaks.

I bypassed Flagstaff a couple weeks ago and stayed at The Grand Canyon Railway RV Park in Williams for $19.50 per night for a pull-thru and full hook-ups with PA discount. Don't want to spend a night in the Flagstaff pokey
