Warranty Repairs

I'm not clear on the authorization process associated with obtaining warranty repairs on my Montana. Is it done by the dealer who will do the repairs?

It's possible to do it that way, but that's not what I did or what I would recommend. I would call Keystone Customer Service first and ask them to open a case, then take it to the dealer and tell them Keystone already has a case open.

Dealer has to inspect/diagnose, submit authorization for approval from Keystone, when approved, order parts, then schedule repairs. Keystone will open a case number but do nothing else but tell you to go to your dealer. Likely makes the process a little faster at the Keystone end.

If you go to your dealer first, be sure to follow up. There have been cases where dealers have let rigs sit for long periods claiming that they are awaiting Keystone to authorize repairs, when the truth is that the dealer hasn't called for the authorization.

Thanks for the information. Being a newbie to fifth wheeling and Montana ownership, I'm glad to have found this site.

We never used our Montana dealer. I had repairs done under Waranty at several Keystone dealers without issue. They simply called Keystone and got authorizations.

I agree with Artemus. Go to a Keystone dealer that has a service/repair center and they should be able to work with Keystone to get approval for them to work on your rig under warranty. That said, I needed to stay on top of my service manager. The SM loves to try and make it Keystone's problem or delay, until I figured out what was really going on (The service manager was slow, laxy and ALWAYS had an excuse that included, "Boy is Keystone slow about things"). The best thing that happened to me was the warranty ended and now I fix things myself. Fortunately, all the fix-its have been pretty easy and within my abilities.

Well, two and a half months later, the warranty repairs are said to be completed and I'll pick up my fiver next week. I wish to thank fellow members for giving me some insight to the claims and repair process. I better understand why so many owners are DIYer's.

what did you have repaired? We had to have a whole slide taken out and it was only two days. Two other repairs were done the same day.

The dealer/service center attributes the long repair process to interaction with Keystone and vendor to replace the oven/range. After being informed that my unit was ready, I went to pick it and discovered that a couple of other listed items had not been addressed. Given the players involved with this warranty repair process, it seems a little like playing the "whack a mole" game.

Get this.. I am purchasing a 6mo old used Montana Legacy edition trailer. The warranty transfers for the remainder of the one year however; the roof Membrane warranty and the floor coverings (vinyl and carpets) warranties do not Isn't that strange?

Yes, "...long, strange trip it's been." Being a newbie, I'm very appreciative to the forum for giving be some perspective to the normalcy of it and reducing my frustration with it - it's almost comical in a Dilbert sort of way. And, I'm grateful that I'm not fulltiming while addressing these issues and improving my learning curve. Good news, the remaining needed part has been ordered and fiver should be ready next week.
