Black tank valve stuck closed
Ok I have a NEW 3582RL and of all things the black tank discharge valve will not open??? The valve is stuck closed and will not open. I have the belly pan down and can see the valve. There are no kinks in the pull line so the problem must be at the valve. Is there a way to get to the inner workings of the valve without removing the entire valve. Ok guys the black tank is about 1/4 full as we were on a 5 day trip and I found this problem on the last day when I tried to dump. I do not want to pull the valve and create a mess in I can avoid it. Yes its new but I would rather not take it to a dealer if I can do this myself.

If you have pulled the valve prior to this time, it could be some TP caught in the slot and the valve gate blade. Try putting some water softener, calgon would be one, to see if it will loosen the valve gate. This would require time to allow the water to soften, if it will. You may be able to loosen the bolts in the mounting that hold the valve gate and see if it will allow you to pull the handle. This will allow the black water to leak so be prepared. Try to loosen the bolts just a tiny bit and spray some WD 40 in the crack, might help loosen the blade. In any of these options, have a bucket or something to try and catch the water. Wear old clothes that you can toss out. Good luck. These are just some thoughts and ideas that have come into my mind.

The valve is a plastic disc that slides between two rubber seals Check out a valve like on Camping Worlds site so you have an Idea how a valve functions . If the valve has not been open sounds like maybe the seal was not allighed in stopping the disc from sliding out. I would losen the 4 bolts sightly very slightly and give it a try, A lot of years ago I had a handle break of valve disc on the back side of the valve I drilled a small hole enough to drive an Ice pick through the hole and push the valve open a few drips but it worked

If your black tank is up front, I'd lower the front as much as possible so you get as little SURPRISE as possible when you play with the valve.

Frankly, if none of the above suggestions work for you, take it to a dealer. I've had ours in a dealer when they were working on this type of problem on another rig. Like the TV commercials say, "Don't try this at home".

The valve has been working just fine till now?? I have the bottom pan down and can see the valve but am not at all sure I want to mess with it. I guess mess is the proper word . I have an appointment at the dealer to fix it. I don't need the rig till late December so a week or two in the shop is ok. It is to go in on the 24th of this month. Oh and yes I use Calgon in that tank all the time?

DQDICK you are so right. I like the dealer option for this problem. I can fix most everything on this rig but I think as it is a new rig (bought in July) I will let a dealer do the job. By the way I can fix most everything on the rig because of all the advice and directions I have gotten from Montana Culb Members. You guys have saved my butt so many times..

Yep off to the dealer. But I told them what the problem is ( black tank about 1/4 full) and they want to wait till the 24th to work on it?? It should be ripe by then. If it were me I would want to do it ASAP. I will add more chem to help with the smell.

Sooo true, Most of my working life was in waste water pump sales. Yes I know I am now in the TAX business, sure smells better well except when dealing with the IRS . So waste water per say is not that big of a problem. However when one can get out of working with it one is smart to take the opportunity.

I imagine they have a way of pumping it clean to work on it......I mean if I was in business servicing RV's I dang sure would have a pump set up to clean out tanks good before working on them....just a matter of having the correct tools that's all....

Just for kicks, try a heat gun or a hairdryer. Worth a try. Good luck, don't like black tank problems. Wishing you luck.

Yes off to the dealer we go. Not something I want to get into. The service manager said he can have it fixed the same day lot better than I can do.

Ok I just delivered my baby to the dealer for the black tank fix. I hope they can do it in a day but most likely I will get her back next week. I don't think anyone liked seeing me bring this type of a problem in but that is what warrantes are for. Updates when it have them.

It is possible that the plastic disk that they cut out for the hole to add the pipe to the tank may have gotten wedged into the valve. It would not be the first time that has happened. The Amish Craftsmen have a tendency to let that plastic disk drop into the tank and not retrieve it, thus causing a problem down the line,"so to speak"! Let us know what the outcome is, will you?

I never thought of the plastic cutout. That may just be the problem. Yes I will let all know what they find. I do hope they can get it done ASAP as I just spent 3 days waxing it .
