Plant tour

Ordered a new 3625RE Big Sky on 2/4/13. Sent an email to Keystone about possibly finding out a date of production so I could make a trip to the plant for a tour while she was on the line. Mark Krol (Midwest Sales Mgr) responded back and said the new unit should hit the production line the 2nd or 3rd week of March then to the paint shop, delivery 1st week of April. While I appreciate Mark's quick response it would sure be nice if they could tell a customer the day their coach will be on the line so the customer quick make a trip over to watch. If anyone has any advice on this or done it with their coach, I would appreciate any advice. Mark did offer a private tour the last week of March and I may have to take him up on the offer.

We have done the tour twice now, and each time, the tour was after the production line was shut down for the day, so everything was static. Maybe that private tour offered could be arranged during actual construction.

Don't forget that liability insurance for manufacturing requires that only employees be present during actual work. Outsiders almost always have to wait until production is shut down before touring the line.

If you have never been on the plant tour I would strongly suggest you take him up on the offer. I found it very enlightening knowing how things go together and their location on the rig. Sure helped me out a couple of times when I needed to check the operation of something or had a problem.

As far as not being there when the work was going on that is not always the case. A couple of years ago we attended an RV.net rally in Elkhart and they arranged a tour of the Heartland factory. We were escorted in small groups by a factory rep and was in among the workers while the rigs were being built. One of our group even had to do some fancy footwork because it turned out he was standing on an airhose connected to a tool the worker was trying to use and needed a little more hose to reach whatever he was working on. This was before they were bought out by Thor so things may have changed some since our tour?
