Removing screens to clean windows

Hi everyone,

We have a 2006 3400 and have never been able to clean the windows completely because we can't/don't know how to remove the screens. Has anyone done this successfully?

As an aside, our window over the couch does not open. I know how it should open, but we are not able to slide the window open. It is as if the frame is too tight around the glass. Has anyone else had this problem and fixed it?

Thanks for any help!

Katja

Katja, You are not the first person to have these issues. The screens are held in with tension clips that sit in the top and/or bottom of the track surrounding the screen. Either push down or up on the screen frame and it will compress the clip enough for the opposite end of the frame to come out of the track. Just reverse to reinstall. (Now that I said this I hope I am thinking correctly for the Montana and not our previous rig) It is tight so don't be afraid to use a little force. Some dry lube or silicone spray on the window track should make the window move a little easier. Make sure the track is clean before spraying the lube. Try not to get the spray on the glass as it takes some effort to clean the film off the glass. Jim

We have a 3400 04, and have not found a way to get the screen out. The only one that works is the escape window. We also have the double panes, so we have this 2" strip in the middle of the window that is not clean. The fantastic fan screens, you unscrew...yes, all those screws to clean it. In between times, use your long handle of the vacuum cleaner with the soft brush to clean the dust out.

DW used Clorox wipes inside and out with the screens in place. Surprised me I'm old school but it worked.

I force them out as described earlier. They are cheap plastic and easy to break. Not made to be taken out very often if at all. If you must take them out be careful and be prepared for breakage.

jpkelpe, the screens in our fantastic fans pop right out. In fact, as I recall, they have a notch to hook a finger i. No screws, no problem. Perhaps it's not the same for an '05 as it is for our '09.

I do my windows and screens at least twice a year. It is amazing how dusty the screens get. Holding the screen from the top inside edge push up, there is a tension spring bar in there and they come right out. Getting back in is sometimes a different issue as you must line up with window edge and do in reverse making sure that screen is secure so they don't fall out while moving!!!When I have them out I do both sides of windows, clean screens and the window tracks as well. Just like home not fun, but someone has to do it. Teresa
